svs 650 or fazer?

´lo folks. I am thinking of getting a bike when i return to the u.k.
I will only have about 1500 spoons to spend and I have narrowed it down to these two bikes. What say you good folk?
Which one would I be best to spend my ill gotten money on?

I would say SV650, as i like the power delivery of V twins, and the noise . Depends what you like tho,

I looked at both and went for an SV650. I absolutely love it. Great power delivery in all gears and an absolute hoot to ride (although I am a novice and don't know any better) but my personal experience (380 miles in 2 weeks) tells me I made absolutely the right choice.

May well have said the same had I bought a Fazer though. So no help at all really.

Get the bike your heart tells you to get and have a great time while the weather is still good.

Depends on what you want, the SV is nice, the Fazer 6 is OK. Best suggestion, get your a*s* back here and do some test rides

What suits me wont suit you, but then I love twins and ride the Fazer 1,000......

I got the impression my SV would have looked like shite ridden through a couple of salty winters. Otherwise it was hard to fault it.

So much down to personal preferance.. what have you ridden before?

Personally i far prefer a Vtwin, sv is powerfull enough for most meer mortals anyhow (and not too much you'll find yourself in bother with trees/ditches or the law)

From what a mate says the fazer is fantastic (very recently flogged it) but not overly comfy, the word torture was used.. (allthough others have said it fine, so test ride would come into it) where as apparently the sv is all day comfy, not a bad touring bike..

In fact, if theres only these two your looking at have a go on both, you'll know right away which one is for you.

I think it's a question of decent top end rush and amazing brakes vs. gorgeous V-twin sound, a bit of a lighter machine but pish resistance to a salty shower.

I'd probably take the SV650 myself, but that's mostly because I never felt comfortable on a Fazer - the seat dug into my thighs and my wrists ached. Revvy bikes are fun though.

The only V-twin I've ridden was a bit bland; revving more didn't do much other than just making more noise. I don't know if the SV would be the same, you'd have to have a test ride to see.

I own an 03 fazer and love it. But. there is a nagging doubt that if I'd gone for an SV650 it would have offered a better learning curve and made progression to a R6, GSXR, Ninja etc etc a more natural one because of the slightly more aggressive riding position.

sv is slower but a v-twin...

if you like speed, don't buy the fazer for it, the suspension is too budget for it. If you like the v-twin then... ehm, I haven't owned one so I don't know.

what do you want it for?

Personally I'd buy the fazer I think. More power, comfier riding position and overall better practicality would tip the scales for me.

But if I was buying one as a weekend toy, I think I'd take the sv.

I'd buy a Fazer out of those two but why narrow it down? As stated, the Thundercat is a better bike than either and will piss all over either as well. If I was spending £1500, I'd go for a Thundercat every time.

When you say SV650..... do you mean the naked SV650. Or the faired SV650s Note the 'S' at the end standing for screen.

If you mean the naked then the seating postion of both the SV and Fazer is similar as the naked SV650 also has 'handlebars'.

If however you mean the faired version than take a test ride first, especially if it's a 'pointy' SV (2003+) as they have clip-ons and a sporty riding postion. The SV'S is not a comfy bike to ride when compared to a Fazer. Pics below explain this better - note the handlebar height difference:

Well it looks like I will have to extend my original choice of 2 bikes to 3 now (thanx G and Grim ).
I have never ridden a Thundercat, but I have had a few limited blasts on the other two.
I can´t remember who recommended the GSXR but its hard to find one that hasn´t had the bejesus flogged out of it.

I will be using the bike daily as regular transport and also something to go blatting around the countryside on for giggles.
It would need to be comfy enough to make a run from Edinburgh to London without leaving me in need of a chiropractor.

Oh and btw, I should´ve said it is the SVS
