25K might be the UK average but you can bet the median is a helluvalot lower than this , since you can bet people like phillip Green who pays himself 1bn quid a year drag the average up, ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The actual figure was £27,000 to make a 'positive lifetime contribution' to the country's economy. You have to take into account the increased strain on public services that hundreds of thousands of immigrants produces - so comparisons to natives who earn less than £27k are irrelevant - as I'm sure you knew when you made it.

thats an all too easy cop out. and a wrong one. there is more or less free movement in the european union now, a european national can work anywhere within the union, with very little difficulty. and by design too, the aim is to promote europe's economic growth and continued strength.
you cant therfore say it applies to migrant europeans and not british nationals.
if you're going to stick a figue up like that, it must apply to all, its nonsense to suggest that an 18yo polish national wanting to work here costs more in administering his right to work than the cost to the tax payer of bearing, raising, educating and keeping in good health a uk national from birth to his 18th birthday!
hell, by your argument the polish guy is better value! someone else bore the cost of bringing him up and educating him.
and speaking as a builder, i'll tell you they generally work hard, are curteous and respectful, turn up when asked, arent late and dont complain if you cant give them a full weeks work, and they dont seem to suffer from monday flu or the shits, unlike their english counterparts..........
what i hate is all those hard working teachers, on 24k pa after 5 years into the job contributing nothing to the economy, or closer to home, all those guys and girls on the assembly line at Triumph motocycles in Hinkley, earning 17.5k basic and again adding nothing to the economy. what a dreadful drain they all are. I know exactly what the aim is, I just don't believe that it is actually in our interests, just like most of the rest of EU policy.

I believe I just did.

I didn't 'stick the figure up' - I quoted it. Feel free to do some research and disprove it. I'm not quite sure how you figure that administering the right to work is the only cost inherent in an immigrant. I'm sure that having hundreds of thousands of extra people in the country might just involve us having to invest a little in housing/NHS facilities/schools/government services etc.

Saying that they are more pleasant to you than the average dodgy English builder is hardly a ringing endorsement.
You seem to have had a mainly positive experience. Aside from a few officers at work from Poland, I've had a mainly negative one. Neither of those personal perceptions affects the financial figures.

no, its just that figure of 25k is nationalistic, jingoistic, bogus nonsense. its designed to rouse a rabble, and nothing more.
migration watch.....shout 99.....combat 18?
a decent critique from a decent paper......not the torygraph or the daily mail...

We already have a rabble, they fill the streets around me!
When you say 'proper' - you simply mean 'agrees with me'. I read both the Telegraph and the Guardian, because they are simply 2 sides to the same coin. If you believe otherwise, you are kidding yourself.
As for MigrationWatch, again, you ridicule them because you choose to believe they are wrong. You'll find it hard to disprove them, because the government specifically avoids looking into the impact of migration because it knows how fucking shocked most of the population would be.
If we are talking about costs of immigration, my centre holds a mere 500 of the detritus of those who have arrived but are not safe to allow to remain, and that costs Johnny Taxpayer £30,000,000 a year just to detain them - God alone knows how much they squander on hopeless appeals and legal aid.
One foreign rapist or overstayer detained for a month wipes a years worth of my income tax off the slate, effectively depriving me of the services I pay for.
EDIT: Oh, and I just flicked through that atrocious Guardian article, notice how they neatly avoided actually addressing any of the points?
