Yay first bike... er oh shit! =O

Curses - today was meant to be all happy getting brand new first big bike (Bandit 600 if anyones interested). All good, hand over cash, walk over to bike, sit on it, turn ignition, *CRUNCH*

The sodding bike right by me has fallen over! I must have caught it with my foot as i got on (not used to bikes as big as the bandit).

The guy's shiny pride and joy, only ridden at weekends, mint Yamaha FJR1300. A quick look over by the dealer and I get shafted up the ass to the tune of £600 , majority of which is a new exhaust to the due to other other one getting scratched...

Oh well, the bandit was fun to ride i suppose... now only if i could afford the petrol.

I think maybe not. I didnt even feel it touch my feet, (was wearing trainers as well), but just as i was about to start it, looked over at his bike going crunch. Noone else nearby as well...

if the guy is replacing bits at your expense make sure you get the bits he takes off(they may still have value) and he might just be trying to get money off you

sorry to make fun £600 is never easy to lose no matter who you are.

Tell him to prove you did it,as you say there was no one about so it could be it wasnt on its stand correctlyi wouldnt hand over any cash just because he says so

As said, at least get the old bits off the dealer, that way they have to buy the new bits.

Not that I don't trust delaers, I just don't trust MOST dealers......

Make sure the bits you get match the amount of damage you saw on the day as well, see up^^^^

Was it another customers bike or the dealers bike? If it was the dealers I'd offer to pay the insurance excess.

Sounds staange though - they arent exactly lightweight bikes :/ Must have been parked on a sideways incline so the balance was maginal or something.

Looking back at it, it think what happened was that as i got on my bike i pulled it forwards. his was at an angle to mine, meaning my top box pushed his forwards and sidestands + forward bike movement = bad.

He's managed to get one or two second hand parts esp the exhaust, so its down to £230 which is a bit more stomachable.

It was a customers bike sagalout, on the road by the dealer. Im 19 on a 600, so were gonna have to settle it outside insurance otherwise next year im gonna get even more shafted.

Oh well, lesson learnt - DONT PARK NEAR OTHER BIKES. And dont sodding well knock them over!

Reminds me of something a friend off here told me. He was walking along admiring the thousands of bikes that were parked up by a race track while the BSB (maybe motogp, i cant remember) was going on, they were all parked on grass in long lines. As he walked past (a good distance away) he hears a series of loud crunches. Looks around and sees a row of shiny bikes have done a dominoes effect and hes the nearest person for a good 10- 20 meters.

He hadn't touched them so one must assume one of the bikes either sunk into the grass on its own accord or a gust of wind took one out which took the rest out!

He wisely chose to walked on...

Bad luck Cabbage, damn unfortunate thing to happen. I have two things to say.

Firstly top marks to you for not trying to dodge responsibility for damaging the other bike. There are so many people who would knock over a bike then scream and shout that they never touched it and it couldn't have been properly on it's stand, or was parked on an incline etc. Good on ya'

Secondly, as above if they are replacing all the parts "old for new" you become the owner of any of the old parts so make sure you collect them all and then you ca recoup some of your money on eBay. The FJR exhaust might not be worth much now but in a few years time when they all start rotting off the bikes it 's value will increase as people need to but new ones, so long as the damage is only slight.

A bit disappointing that the dealer, who likely knew it was your first big bike didn't make sure it was parked well clear of any customer's bikes etc. It's common for people to over-balance on a strange bike, especially if they are stepping up in size.

Can't really knock the dealer since they have managed to knock the cost down to two hundred even though you were resigned to paying the six hundred. I'm surprised he didn't get the bike out for you, it's not just the risk of damage to his stock but the cost of public liabilty if the bike had fell on you.
