sounds like you have a baxi boiler, whichmeans the gas fire is part of the heating system for your hot water which in turn means you have whats called a back boiler behind your gas fire? this will be identifed by having 2 22mm pipes that run somewere out side the chimney breast?
if this is the case then you dont need a corgi registered fitter to remove and cap the back boiler but you will (depending on your diy skill) need a plunber, you will also need a new form of getting hot water.
you can buy new gas fires that use the back boiler system but they are very very exspencive.
sorry i cant be much mor help but my only involment with back boilers was removal and refit for the local council and most of these involved using real coal fires and not gas. ____________________ "Its Better To Burn Out Than Fade Away!!!!!!" "Lifes a bitch and then you Die"

that does sound like what we have
we want to take the fire and fireplace away as we dont use it and could do with reclaiming the space.
was hoping it was going to be cheap but cant justify the cost of a new or partial heating system.
thanks though ____________________ duck my sick! |
