I don't know him, but he's my mum's cousin's son, and he's been riding for about 10 years. He was on a country road in Sweden, and a horse had escaped. He crashed into it and broke both his neck and his spine...

Bugger me, not a good thing to hit. A large horse can weight 100 stone.

I'd rather be on a bike than a car if anything (got some chance of avoiding it, getting knocked off or going under it).

I lost two friends on wednesday in a car crash, their own stupid fault that makes it harder to take.

Sorry to hear this. I nearly hit an escaped horse, Luckily I wasnt going flat out due to the fact that there was a broken down car earlyer on which shit me up, but I barely missed it at legal speeds..

lilred, you knew these guys. Sorry mate, know how it feels. Nick and I lost a close friend in similar circumstances back in 87, his brakes failed on a nasty corner, its hard to accept now but time heals ok.

As for the guy in Sweden, RIP.

Sad Nightmare. RIP...

This is the thing my girlfriend keeps telling me (I am moving to Sweden with her and my son soon) , and apparently many people are killed each year by animal hits, mainly because of Elks coming out of the forest that covers more than half the country...

Gonna have to be very careful.
