Bemsee Rookie 600 racing

Hi, I'm planning to race in this class from next season and currently in the process of prepping a bike for it. The mechanics I take it to also race and suggested that I put in some Yoshi cams and skim the head.

I've checked the Bemsee web site for the Supersport 600 regulations and it says that cyclinder head modifications are not allowed.

Has anyone raced in this class in the 06 season, can you confirm if this is allowed? Also are Brembo master brake cylinders and aftermarket dashboards allowed?

I don't think a skimmed head is allowed, as you say.
Aftermarket brakes and dashboards are.
Believe you are allowed the different cams.

Do you expect to have the skill and finances to be one of the top runners, remembering the front of Bemsee Rookie 600 is /very/ fast?

Nah, I don't think I'm that fast let alone be in the front runners, gonna go out there and have some fun. Just don't want to be last and might as well try and get the machine to be comparable to everyone elses.

I already have the brake master cyclinder, just wondering if I needed to revert back to OE.

To be honest, if you want to be comparable to everyone else to give yourself the best chance, I'd save the money for fresh tyres regularly.

Personally, I wouldn't spend money on engine turning really to start with. When it starts to get to the point that you are not progressing because you are getting held up by the same people on the straights everytime, then maybe consider it.

Some people out there will probably have 125hp+ bikes - no way you're going to be able to match that without a lot of money.
If nothing else, you may find the money is better spent on a few pre-season trackdays than tuning.


If you can be pretty sure that you're a top rider that's 'going somewhere', then the situation may be different - but even then only 5% of those that think that actually ride well enough to justify thinking that .

thanks for the advice. i think i will just do a light tune and got for more tyres like you say. looks like i will have a garage full of tyres after a while.

I was racing rookie 6 last year.

Had a variable year in minitwins this year.

Triumph 675 cup thingy next year.


Top bikes in SS600/Clubman 600 may well be hovering around 130hp. A WSS bike can make quite a few more horses than that, as well!


Personally, I'd spend tuning money on the riding which will probably improve lap times more and still give you room to upgrade the bike.
Though, you can't use a standard exhaust usually, so need at least a race can and if you've not already got a full system, some deals can be had on ebay. From there you might as well have a better/no air filter and getting a power commander setup.

Personally, I wouldn't go to the point of any at-all expensive tuning to the engine it's self. This tends to devalue the bike once used if anything, for a start.

Making sure the bike is well serviced at the begging of the season is, however a good idea.
