				| Posted: 13:59 - 07 Oct 2006 Post subject: Can´t find the VIN number on KTM Duke II | |
				|
 |
				| Hi - Just got a nice KTM Duke 2003 from the Uk (trough E-bay)
Everythin seems fine and it´s HPI clear, and the bike carry the correct Engine number.

The problem is that I cant find the VIN number on the Frame

This is from the KTM website "KTM Vin Number Identification

The vin can usually be found on the steering column or neck of the frame"

No number here ....guys - do you have any sugestions - i'm stuck

 Cheers

				| i doubt it, mabee it was never stamped from the factory, or maybee as you say it was done professionally, and they have ground away the number and filled it sanded and then repainted it,
if your engine matches your documents, then i would say don't worry too much, there isn't too much you can do frame wise,

   good luck
sorry im not much help really

				| Well there are many stupid ressons why I did not check the frame nr.
 1. I was in a hurry - sad reality, stupid dessision
 2. The bike was HPI clear and the enginenumber was the only number stated on the HPI dockument
 3. The seller told that the frame nr. could be under the tank - I did not have any tools with me in the middle of London
 4. For some resson, I trust most peopel until other can be justified - by bigges mistake.

I'v borght more than 40 cars and 20 bikes, and never been cheated
seems that I run out of luck.
What would a smart guy like you guys do -
 repport to the police
Go to the lawyer (I work with 265 of them each day, in a lawfirm)
, or hammer the correct number in the frame.

Thanks a lot for your support - this is realy frustrating .....being so good dam stupid not to check the frame nr. when buying

				| Take a ride over to a KTM dealer and have a look to see where the frame number is on one of their bikes (preferably a 2003), just in case it's somewhere else.
As for your bike, I think I'd keep quiet about it - it's very unlikely you'd end up with your money back if it was a ringer (and it would take a lot of time and hassle) - and the worst that could happen is you loose your bike completely. Although if it was HPI clear on the reg and engine number, I guess it's not stolen - but has possibly had a new frame. You could always stamp the number yourself.
