WARNING:
This article does contains graphic images one persons motorcycle crash injuries. The images are not in your-face-gory, you don't have to make the thumbnail bigger if you don't wish to. In my opinion they are necissary to tell the story.

(I have seen much worse in Casualty & Holby City myself!).

I feel that apart from the scars she is left with on the outside, the trauma she must have gone through inside would break most people. She is a lucky one, she lived to tell the story! I won't let any of my pillions ride in normal clothes after seeing what she went through any more.

Wear the correct safety equipment at all times guys!

kinda shows why you should wear the real gear when riding, I dont want my skin too look that way,

I did 500 yards at about 65 and that was with hitting the bike as it slid down the road.

Nice new shiny road surface.

It must have been considerably more for her to be blown off the back though.

Well yes, I suppose. Strong winds can have an immense effect as you will know from motorway driving.

I think most of long term bikers know the danger of crap clothing, I still do it. My jacket now has the best back armour available at the time I bought it. But I will still ride with the jacket and re-inforced jeans, even though I know full well that sliding down the road my beer belly will be ground down by tarmac when my jacket gets pulled up. I KNOW how much that hurts (please not the nailbrushes again).

I think it is good to point it out to new riders.

Has there been a poll on how many of us have never been off ?

Might be interesting.

I just don't ever want to come off at that sort of speed, with full gear on or not. Not that the fear will stop me riding, but it's always there. I came off my putt-putt at about 12-15mph, fell onto my shoulder with a heavily armoured textile jacket on. I've never regained full movement in my left shoulder, and it aches to hold a steering wheel with it for long, I find myself driving almost constantly with my right hand only, though it's not an issue when riding.

I'm annoyed enough by this minor inconvenience caused by a slow speed off; I don't think I could handle what she went through. It's interesting that nearly all her injuries seemed to be superficial though. Very few broken bones, no mentioned head injuries.

I take your point. But a poll might give us a brighter overall picture.

A bit more of a positive slant is all I'm after.

I am really interested.

I hate to say it but I have a feeling coming off is part of the learning process when we push it too far.

But that is just a gut feeling.

I'll slap one up in the morning unless anybody else wants to do it.

Well as I have said before I have been incredibly lucky.

I'll do the abbreviated list again as it is a new thread.

Lets think

Compressed vertebrae x 2
Fractured spine in two places
Punctured lung x 1
Spleen- turned out to be OK
Internal bleeding
Massive tissue damage (bone level bruising).
Broken finger.

30 mph accident.

Yep

Filtering.

He turned right.

Car was an MOT failure weighed down with concrete at the front.

No insurance, him not me.

Equal blame apportioned.

He lost his job and left the county. I spent three months in hospital a year in a back brace and got back onto the same bike as soon as I could.

I think it is fair to say that I am more careful now Smile

pretty much every sportsbike rider i see in Melbourne at the minute doesn't wear anything like full protection.

and we complain if people insinuate bikes are dangerous...

Because she has probably been through pain that would see a lot of people retreating into the depths of depression.

She was stupid but she doesn't blame anyone else for the outcome, a lot of people would be blaming the rider. I think she has been brave, she is back on a bike, that takes a lot of bravery, I know, I've had to do it after a crash that almost ended my life.
