Decent biking backpack

Gotta get me a decent backpack for me bike, mines like a cape and catches the wind so much its like driving with a parachute on ma back!

Can anyone recommend any... any links? I've been around a few shops but theyre like 70+ buck

Can you not just use an ordinary backpack but try getting one that has a belt thing with a clip that goes round your stomach. It might work and I doubt it would be that expensive. You could probably get one from a decent camping shop.

Should be, Ive just had a look and you can get a pair of XPD boots in with some room to spare. It's also got pockets on the sides and at the back, 2 straps that go across your chest and it's not leaked yet, so pretty waterproof as well ( and it's been tested at 130 mph yesterday, didn't feel like I had it on).

If you can find a stockist or order online then Kriega rucksacks are designed for motorcyclist and come with a parachute style fastening to help get it on over textile jackets and armour.

Don't be tempted by eBay. Have a look around. For example the R35 is £100 inc delivery direct from Kriega and it's over £100 from eBay seller.

Go with a tank bag, quite a few of them have straps as well, so can be carried or worn when not on the bike.

A mate of mine came off a few years ago, had his work trousers and a pair of shoes in his backpack. No lock or metal objects. 30mph spill onto his back, wearing full kit. He was in a chair for over a year and walks with crutches now, shoe heel into vertebrae. Even through an armoured jacket, ouch.

Yes, I'm sure many people on here ride with a pack on (used to myself) and have never had a sniff of such an accident, but when there's a way of transporting shit that's as easy and convenient as a backpack and doesn't put you at risk of that kind of mishap, then I'll go for it every time

I have the Kriega R25, it is an excellent backpack with very good build quality but I'm not sure it's worth the full RRP.

A thorough downpour will wet the inside so get the optional waterproof liner if you need it to be 100%.

Enough room to keep my uniform without it getting creased, as well as bits and bobs such as my MD player in the front pocket. (which has a handy waterproof earphone hole)

Not yet tested it in a huge downpour, but it has weather a few summer storms without leaking, so I suspect it will be fine for the 30 mins my commute takes me.

I have always found motorcycle rucksacks to be very below par compared to the real thing.

Defintaly go for one from Blacks, or another camping outdoorsey type place.

Explain to the salesperson what you want and what you will be using it for and they should sort you out with a decent rucksack.

I had mine from Blacks about 6 years ago now and it's still fully functional.

Best idea the sales person had was that it;s got a waist strap and chest strap, so the thing is clamped to you like a limpet! Added to that it's got a web and bracing where it would normalley sit against your back, so it holds it away from you by about 10cm, so if you put anything bulky/sharp in it you cant feel it

It also has no side pockets that stick out, so it is only as wide as your back.

I can't find the one I have on the website, but I would go into the store and ask.

I also have the oxford tank bag, expandable and zips off into a back pack.

i swear my by my Kriega R35 the only thing is they are £100,there not water proof and dont hold too much. But they dont move and you can hardly feel that youve got it on. its got a nice pocket useful for petrol money/toll bridges. ive tested it at 150 at still didnt notice i had it on.
Other than that id reccomend a knox aeropack only £35 got loads of room and loads of straps tp make sure it doesnt go anywhere.

For long journeys i use a tankbag, but for everyday use i use this, especially if im carryin my laptop around.

Laptop compartment/foldercompartment/main compartment/wallet +mp3 compartment.

Nothings got wet in it in the 2 years ive been using it.

Got waist straps and the usual 2.

Padding on the back, long as you dont stuff it with tons of stuff its like its attatched .

I got mine from the market for a fiver.

It's just a normal backpack size, with 2 straps!

I have to make sure I have the zips round to either side and not in the middle as at 80+ when I lean down the air catches between the zips and they zip open!

Fortunately nothing ever fell out!

Kriega - worth every penny, I've got the smaller one and I can get laptop, change of clothes, spare visor, gloves and waterproof over trousers in OK. As others have said you don't realise you are wearing it.

I've got the Kriega R35 and it is a cracking rucksack, if I was a skinny type I reckon I'd struggle though, as they don't adjust that far down.

The R35 takes a full face lid, which is invaluable for race meets etc.

However, I much prefer to use a tailpack on my daily commute, better for the back and I don't want to crash whilst wearig a rucksack.

knox looks good, but not as good as the kriega. it's abit more than i'd have liked to spend on a 'bag', but hope it will last me till im old!

Yep, good choice!
I have the r35, the only drawback is that my tits get a tad squashed by the zip-up front panel.

I was advised to get the r25 but, oh no, I knew best & wanted as much 'sac as I could get for my cash. So I got the 35, thinking 'Hey, I can get at least 4 extra bottles of wine in this mutha'.
The trade off is the squashed tits.
