Hey peeps. just a quick post to let you know how i spent my 22nd birthday. was on my way to the shop about midnight on tuesday 3rd, going round a long right hand corner just as it had started raining. must have hit diesel or greese or something, but anyway the next thing i remember was trying to stand up in green at the side of the road, covered in mud. when i stood, my leg felt really odd and i just fell down, 3 times i stood and 3 times i fell, so i gave up. i phoned my gf in halls and told her i needed help, but some passers by had already called a disco taxi (ambulance). i kinda remember arguing with the paramedic on the ambulance and taking my boot off because he wanted to cut me out of everything. i sort of remember giving statment to peelers, and then getting leg x-rayed, being put on IVs and drugs, but anyway the short of it is, i fractured my leg, had a 3 hour operation to put it back together, its held together now by 3 screws. very sore. spent 4 days in hospital and got so fucked off i came home. legs pure agony, the pain killers help a bit, but its still sore. prob wont be walking for a few months.

also some scummy bastard stole my bike from the side of the road while i was in hospital. Crying or Very sad

Hi

Ouch. With luck the police have the bike.

With a pinned leg you should be out and about fair quickly.

All the best

Keith

Ouch!

Hope the pain dies down soon - the missing bike is a bit concerning! Surely only a determined tealeaf is going to pinch a crashed bike?

Take it easy on the leg, you don't wanna over-stress it and cause more damage.

The police are right bastards.

When i had my off last week they recovered my bike for me (While i was strapped up in the back of the ambulance!) without even asking me if i had recovery/insurance to cover the cost of recovery.

Cost me £105 standard fee (without VAT) and they tried to charge another £35 because it took 2 people Rolling Eyes Confused

You can moan at the old bill to try and get them to pay for it because sometimes they do but their excuse was 'i said it was ok for them to recover it'...did i bollocks, i was in no fit state to answer any questions, and i also didn't say anything of the sort!

Anyway, just go into the station and cause a scene...they will soon let you know what has happened!

The coppers who attended mine lifted the bike into the carpark of the hotel the woman came out of, and went in and told the staff to keep an eye on it as it would be there for a while.

We all whine about people stereotyping bikers, I'm getting a little bored of people doing the same about the police.

Well, after I came unstuck and broke my wrist and elbow (and was unconcious for quite a while) the bike copper moved my bike into a neighbour's garden from whence I retrieved it later on.

When my VT got stolen, they called up the recovery people straight away, who wanted to charge me approx. £170 for the priviledge of having my bike stolen! Shocked They claimed they had called me to ask me what to do with it, but had they bollocks" Rolling Eyes No number which I could possibly reached at was called. It's no wonder the scum who are recovery people make such a killing, they make a profit from victims of crime who have no choice in the matter. Later on they're charging so much it only makes sense for the insurance to pay for it. Thumbs Down

Stereotypes of police when dealing with this sort of thing? They're justified in my book. Some are cool, some are absolute dicks.

Well saying that, they were pretty good at sorting everything out..and with previous experiences they were really good.

Just let down by the odd thing they do, like making me fork out £130ish on recovery when i have full AA cover which would of cost me nothing!

Same thing happened to Korn's Firestorm when he broke his leg, they just left it at the side of the road. Neutral

I'd rather they used some of the tax money I pay them to recover it themselves and store it for however long. Victims of crime really don't need profiteering recovery companies on top of everything else they're going through. Thumbs Down Sick

So, in summary, they took your property without your consent or your represnetative(s) or under any instruction from the police. Now, I may be wrong, but that sounds very much like theft to me. Maybe they monitor the police channels for RTAs Confused On a non conspiracy theory line if a police office ok'd the recovery then they're probably on holiday so no-one else knows what's going on.

On the plus side at least you're still around to care. Bikes can be mended, people are harder to replace.

Hope you get well and get plenty of physio for the leg Thumbs Up

aye well thats the way the world works...

A couple of weeks ago my dog escaped our garden during a thunderstorm, she was collected by the police and taken to the local pound... When I finally managed to locate her I was charged £60 for the pleasure Sad

*EDIT*
ps: Hope the leg turns out fine!

I know it stinks but that's the way it is at the moment. I'd rather have my bike taken safely away rather than it lying at the side of the road for maybe days on end.

Would the AA actually recover it though ? When I was a member and had an accident in my car, I asked them to recover it to their AA garage which was about a mile away. The lady on the phone informed me that they didn't do that and offered to give me the number of a tow truck service instead.

The police were actually helpful when I had my off last monday. Worked out a way to recover it then get insurance to sort the costs, and the police would arrange to drop it back too, but in the end my mate rang in the middle of sorting it out, and offered to ride it back, which somehow they were cool with too Laughing
I like to believe there's more good cops than bad...

Depending on what was damaged, I would be tempted to chase that up with the doctors.

All the best

If the police say they didn't instruct anyone to recover your bike, you didn't instruct anyone to recover your bike and your bike is missing, surely you need to report it as stolen?

I too have had a bike 'recovered' on the instructions of the police. It was 100 yards away from my front door at the time where some neds had pushed it (without an engine in it). They then had the audacity to try to charge me £140 to get it back.

Far be it from me to suggest that brown envelopes change hands Thinking ... Actually, I did suggest this in a letter to my MP about essentially being fined by the police for being a victim of crime.
