Hi,

A mate of mine is doing his DAS at the moment. Due to a cock up with the booking, he's ended up with a 3 week gap inbetween doing CBT + day on 125 and moving on to 500's.

The training school are fully booked, so he can't get another days instruction, but they have said he can hire a 125 for a day, which he's doing this sunday.

What's the best thing for me to do? Just let him go out on his own? Should I ride with him - in front so he can copy all my bad habits or stay behind?

I've only been riding a year myself (15k all weather miles though). I'm really not going to try and instruct, just wondering if I can help a mate out? Plus I got him into biking so I'd feel really guilty if he got himself squashed.

Id say stay behind, watch his technique and pick up on mistakes he makes, but point them out nicely try not to put him down. Best way is to point out the mistake's then tell him what he is doing right or vice versa.

My mate helped me loads on my test, taught me u-turns, observations, hill starts etc. Was a massive help when i went for my test.

In general try and build up his confidence on the bike a bit, so hes comftable controlling ther machine, then he cna start learning more about observations and riding techniques etc.

When I was helping a mate, I stayed behind so I could comment later and to help keep aggressive drivers off his back for a while.

You'll be surprised how much 'teacher banter' you remember and it might help to take breaks so you don't have to remember too much detail as you ride.

Also, if you've got no radios, pre-arranged signals would help.

A.

yep as every one else has said. defently go with him. that should stop him from doing any thing to silly. spend as much time as you can on the bike. even if its crappy weather. every bit of road time will help him for the test.
good luck, and good luck to your mate Very Happy

stay behind. it'll be slow progress. every 10-15 mins or so pull him over and have a chat, point out what he could be doing better and how.

depends what method you use,

the full metal jacket - Private Pyle what my instructor did worked for me,

However this may crush the confidence of others.

Closer to having done the test, better to instruct about it probably - as it's still fresher in your mind.

If he's still nervous, might also be worth doing a few stints in front, as some people gain confidence from following a more experienced rider.

Incidentally, might be out playing on Sunday if it's nice, if he wants some extra-curricular teaching Wink.
