I went to Kenya to get married, just me and the wife. So we had no problems trying to keep everyone happy and the headache hoping the day went fine. No receptions etc etc to pay for.

More like a honeymoon with the wedding thrown in !

We've looked at stuff like that but I think the plan is to get married here now, as there is quite of bit of family we want there. Then for the honeymoon we've thought of asking for no wedding pressents (We've lived together 5 years, there's nothing we need!) and instead asking for vouchers for first choice or Thomas cook. Seeing how much we get and sodding off somewhere good about a month after the wedding.

It will gain legs of its own and in no time at all you will start to care if the bridesmaids match the place cards and wether you should have Mr+Mrs rock made especially.

Forget trying not to offend anyone, you will always mortally upset someone. Personally for someone who had the big white wedding and is just starting to plan wedding no.2 I think there's a lot to be said for going abroad and for very very small weddings.

Write a list now of whats essential and refer back to it when the going gets tough.

I'm currently planning for there to be 6 of us there, that's plan A. By the time we get to the wedding I'm expecting it to contain a marquee and a thousand people Mr. Green .

These things just happen with weddings.

Watch out for the mother-in-law........

Rolling Eyes They seem to think it's their day! My mum was horrendous... His was worse! I had to tell them to butt out a few times
'you have to invite your cousin'
I worship the ground my cousin will be buried under!...
'Do this, do that,etc'
OI mum.. If I want to have the loudest band in the area I will! Rolling Eyes

I don't know what your other half is like tribal... but I was horrible... I wanted to sort everything out myself then had a go at the prospective groom about not being interested!

The worst part, I found in all honesty was afterwards....
I had spent 6 months living and breathing my wedding day that after the deed was done I got all.... I don't know 'antsy'
6 months of deadlines, planning, changing plans, stress/excitement, for what? nothing!
I started looking for the pressure when there was nothing there to get stressed about, and even went so far as to rock the boat a few times just to bring some excitement back into my life.
It's the weirdest feeling I've ever had... I would liken it to going on holiday, you build up to it, then suddenly theres nothing to worry about, so you stress about what you think you've forgotten. (you know that feeling you get ever though you KNOW everythings sorted out?)

Congratulations on setting a date Very Happy Thumbs Up

Last word of advice is something my father-in-law said in his speech...
"Just remember that NOBODY is perfect"

My In-Laws a re wicked and I've no real worries about anything with that. I get on well with all of my g/f's family, and god, is there a lot of them. They live in NI so there won't be too much they can do from their side, but my folks are here. To be honest I'm glad they are. I'll need all the help i can get!

We totaled up all of my family, including kids there's 21! My family is tiny!!!

Cat's on the other hand is massive! We'll probably have people from Oz, USA, Scotland and Canada!!!

First of all - congratulations.

Secondly, I don't envy you the task of organising a wedding. Just listening to the discussion about just finding caterers, let alone waiters, cutlery, tables, chairs and glasses was enough to put me off!

I'm guessing you aren't looking for a traditional church wedding in that case?
Hire a marque, a hog roast (or similar) and a large field at the back of a friendly (well stocked) pub.
Invite all your friends and relatives to a weekend camping.
Get married in the marque, get a band to come and play, organise the pub to set up a bar/buy lots of kegs of beer. Everyone can crawl off to their tents afterwards Thumbs Up

Cheap and cheerful Thumbs Up
(sorry not feeling very romantic today)

Congratulations!! Very Happy

After helping plan my Sister's wedding, all I'd say is watch out for your families! There's usually always someone who wants to stir things up!

It's fantastic sorting and organising all these different things, then finally seeing it all come together on the big day! Good luck! Thumbs Up

Thank you all!!!!

No doubt you will all be hearing about it!

First thing we are looking for is a venue! We've seen a place we both REALLY like near Norwich but bugger me is it expensive!!!

Ooo, congratulations!

McJam and I are in the same boat at the moment, planning for our wedding in July 2008 (you can never start planning too early with these things!)

Our ideas are as follows to keep it a different/fun/on a budget event:

Arrow Live music (McJ's bro's band are playing)

Arrow Chocolate fountain instead of stupid cake that noone eats

Arrow Chinese and Indian buffet

Arrow No flowers

Arrow No bridesmaids, as if I have one I'll upset 5. Too political and too much worrying about colour co-ordination!

Arrow Homemade invites with song requests for the RSVP so everyone's music tastes are catered for at the party (don't like the word 'reception' - sounds formal)

Arrow No hats or formal attire allowed (unless invites want to!)

Arrow No professional photographer as this can cost hundreds if not thousands and isn't always good. We are going to ask everyone to bring their camera and see what happens! (yes, you too Kickstart!)

Arrow Not sure about the wedding itself yet, we want bikes to be involved somehow but not quite figured it out yet. Or I might just get a lift in my dad's Rover!

You haven't said what sort of wedding you want, but beware that lots of venues expect you to pay for their caterers, charges for chairs to be in certain places etc, and they often come with hidden extras which you are forced to pay - so make sure you shop around and make it your day! Also try not to worry about pleasing everyone as this is impossible.

Enjoy and let us know how it goes! Thumbs Up

Congrats!!! Very Happy

And don't worry, it will all come together in the end...just remember to laugh at all the silly irrelevant things that will go wrong.

I'm sure it will be perfect Smile

My missus just suggested that when we were on the sofa!!!

At the moment we are still getting ideas, again, this will be on a budget, but as long as it's fun we're happy.

Again, she also said about your idea with the cameras. One thing we said we will do is get loads of disposable cameras for the evening and just hand them out, and collect them up again at the end of the night!

Thanks for all the congratulations and I'll keep you all informed!

Oh and I want updates from you Karen, you seem on the same wavelength as Cat here! You could prove to be a BIG help!

Is it just me or do there seem to be a lot of bcf weddings on the go atm? Also, is there no one on bcf does wedding photos then? Can we recruit one and get a discount for a block booking do you think?

moomin said chineese or indian buffet..

bugger that, thats what you get at conexxions doos and council doos now.

Go with the brit buffet if your going to have one, make sure you dont bother with loads of fancy stuff but do enough to make it looks posh,
plenty of propper food with lots of dead pic and meat by products.

as for tehwedding, all you can do is decide what you two want, I'm afraid others can only help in the brainstorming.
spend as much or as little money as you want,
Its not the cash or the invited guests or the views, after dinner speaches, the location or anything else. It's the voe's you say to one another in those 15 or so minites that make the wedding. It takes a lifetime to make it work Smile
Congratulations,.

Congratulations!

My suggestion is to find a venue (hotel?) that will sort out everything for you. They can recommend florists, entertainment (band or disco or whatever) and give you menus to select from.
Much easier. Thumbs Up

When I was organising ours I spent quite a bit of time on the forum on confetti.co.uk to get ideas - probably more one for your missus than you though, it's all a bit extreme.

I think the first thing we've decided on and got sorted is strangley enough... Wedding shoes!

Cat has always said she was going to get married in trainers. We've been onto the Nike web site, and once everything is confirmed we are going to get her custom made wedding trainers!

Just plain white classic Nikes with Our names and the date of the wedding stiched into them. Made some mock up ones on the site and they look really cool.

I'm thinking of doing a matching pair to go with my suit! Both wear them. Hell, it's gonna be a long day, might as well be comfy!
