Its often said backfires with FI bikes are not possible but a few weeks ago I remember seeing something on terestial TV where there was a ZX10R or something leading the race it had twin under seat pipes , and when going round corners it regularly spat out flames out the exhaust , sort of like that ancient SEGA game called Super Hang on (where the C button turned on the turbo),

HOw does that work then? surely a ZX10R is FI or is it?

Theres no reason it shouldn't be possible. The only time fuel is cut in most injection systems is on over run with a fully closed throttle and over a certain rpm.

The kawasaki superbikes are essentially 200bhp flamethrowers. Very Happy

If the bike has Fuel injection, it's not possible to Force backfires using the kill switch, like on a carbed bike, but it can still backfire on the over-run. Flicking the kill-switch on a FI bike cuts the fuel, not just the ignition.

Maybe that's what's been referred to.
