might be sticky brakes, go for a ride and dont use the rear brake stop and touch the back disc if its warm brakes are dragging if not then id start looking at wheel bearings or something, but cbr is new bike so that would be unusual. ____________________ 2nd time around CBT: 8/9/11

LOL! What a great idea
Right... well... I had a little look yesterday morning and wheeled it around and yep, it's still squeaking now an then, but I couldn't see what was causing it. So I took it to Appleyard's after work and a very nice man came out and had a look at it for me. He leant it over on its stand and whizzed the back wheel back and forth and has figured out that it's prolly due to the brakes rubbin - the disc isn't 'out' enough to see it wobblin when the wheel's turning, and the brakes don't judder at all, so it's prolly just a fraction out. Also, there's a teeny patch of rust on the edge of the disc which is prolly catching too, so I'm gonna wet & dry that off today.
He did say that both front and back brake units were very dry and an ickle bit rusty in places, like they'd been jet-washed at some point and not greased up again. He said they'd do with a taking-apart, a cleaning-up and a putting-back-together again. This isn't anything I could even guess at, I haven't the tools nor the knowledge, so I'm booking it in sometime next week and it should only take em an hour or so.
Also, it's been cutting out now an then, usually in the first 10 mins of riding, and he figures that starting it up every morning to ride just three miles to work, and then home again in the afternoon, prolly isn't enough to keep the battery topped up. So I got me an Optimizer and they're gonna fit the cable thingy to the battery for me at the same time.
I'm starting to feel that this is going become quite an expensive hobby unless I get my head around some basic repairs and maintenance... |
