Hello

I've fucked up on flights & trains.

I have... 15 minutes... from my flight arriving in Luton, to me being on a train.

If I stand any chance of making it, I need not to have any baggage. I would normally take my Leatherman and various heavy blunt objects to do the job I'm doing.

Obviously I can't really take any of these (I'm returning from the job, so may post them back) but theres a few things I wonder if I can take as hand luggage:

a) Wingnut Spanner
b) Maglite

If you don't know what a wingnut spanner is, look below:

Any advice?

I highly doubt you'll be allowed that on the plane, unfortunately. They'll probably think you're trying to undo the bolts of the plane or something.

Maglite should be allowed, depending on how big it is.

Hi Craggles

I work in the travel industry and to be honest they are still being very strict on what you can take through security. I do a lot of nightstops and as crew they don't let us walk through security with our nightstop bags.

We get 'red notices' which is compulsory for most airlines, my most recent one i'm scanning through says no liquids only essential medicines. Baggage should be one bag through airport security, in addition one musical instrument with no accessories. Nothing about tools.

Please remember you are only allowed to take one piece of hand luggage through security with you. The size of the bag has to be 56cm in height, width 45cm depth 25cm.

I've not seen any tool boxes on the plane recently to be honest.

As long as it's not one of the foot long Maglites that also doubles as a handy club I'd have thought you'd be alright. Have to say that despite all the fuss about tightened security, they still don't pay very much attention to what you've got.

And 15 minutes from arriving in Luton to being on a train... I wouldn't want to count on even being off the plane in 15 minutes. Confused

I've jiggled the times and now have 30 minutes.

Still not a lot of time. Bets on my being stranded in Luton Monday night? (I have a backup plan, just will mean being knackered and late for work the next day)

I'm flying from within the UK (Aberdeen!).

You should be fine with 30 mins, just request a seat at the front of the plane on an isle so your off first. Not sure what Lutons layout is but Birmingham has a monorail that takes you to the train station, they may have one?

Not sure what Lutons security is like but i've had everything possible taken off of me in Birmingham and i'm crew so....

My shoes do have metal in them - I'll be wearing my steelies!

Although I'm not hiding it. I'm going to post my tool belt back, it's only going to cost me a few quid and its not worth the hassle.
