Well, im at bath uni and wanted to sign up to a sports club but due to breaking a few bones april ive been told that contact sport is really not a good idea and im going to listen as i dont think i could go though breaking anymore bones anytime soon.

The sports fair had to be one of the most depressing things ive done lately as the ONLY two sports i can do that dont envolve contact or lots of running or sitting for long periods of time were artery and Rifle club.

Anyways, i joined the rifle club as although a bit geeky someone to do outside and hopefully will be a way of getting my mind off things. They mainly go clay pigeon but also go to army ranges and do target etc. (i used to go out for a blast on the bike to take my mind off things but dont have one anymore Sad )

Anyways, what i wanted to know was has/does anyone here shoot? If so whats it like and any tips??

well i used to go clay pigeon shooting when i was younger, had my own over & under which was left-handed of course (we're a better species us lefties Laughing ).. i wasn't very good mind you.. used to just do down the line never tried skeet... it was fun nevertheless...

used to have a trap and my uncle used to live on a farm so we got clays and done it in a field as well, which was nice.. but clubs are good, the guy at the club could shoot from his waist and hit anything! what a legend! Thumbs Up

as for tips, well always aim a bit in front of the clay and keep following it after the trigger is pressed, but of course that;s obvious stuff. Laughing

I used to shoot in a few disciplines - mostly shot smallbore, 25yards. I was good at that. Also did some fullbore and shotgun stuff, which I was never any good at.

The thing which I'm really thinking about it is whether the recoil is going to be too much for healing bones. Theres a hefty kick on a 12 guage, particularly if you use a lighter older gun as I used to.

I don't how fragile you're supposed to be at the mo, but if your doctors have you down as too fragile to run lots then I wouldn't fire shotguns. I would do fullbore and smallbore prone though.

TBH just what I was thinking, when I went clay shooting I could not move my shoulder all the following day.

Yea thats a good point but on only real hazard is my pelvis and contact sports poeple can land on you so their a no-no. I think their will be a lot of force going though my sholder but its one of the place im not broken which is good!! Im basically back to full health and can run but it hurts after while and therefore i feel i wouldnt enjoy the sport as much if in pain/discomfort.

They also said that they have a smaller bore/gun that has less of a kick if your stuggling with the bigs one. First sesson is wednesday

as I say, I don't know about the particulars of your break, but at a 12 guage can put a hefty twisting motion into your body, and that energy has to get absorbed somewhere.

Try a 20 gauge or even a .410 though, much less kick on them.

I clay shoot

I own a 12B side by side double trigger and a 3 shot pump action. I ised to have a 12B over/under Beretta 'Silver Pigeon' but i sold it.

I find that some days i'm on form and others i'm miles off the mark.
I also suffer from shoulder pain if i've been using the SBS as its very light.
The extra weight of ther pump gun soaks up some recoil.

i remember from when i went clay shooting ages ago, make sure you lean into it and pull the gun into your shoulder, as i nearly found out, if you dont lean into it and are quite light (as i was back in the day) a 12 bore can put you on your ass quite easily!
