Hi guys,

getting a bit of a problem on the SV.

WHenever I change up into the higher gears, I seem to have difficulty changing back down again, I can usually get to 4, sometimes 3rd, but then the gear lvere just moves down but no gearch change. I've tried with a few revs. I've tried changing the oil. I've also tried tightening the clutch cable.

Quite a few noths ago, I came off the bike and bend the gear selector lever/pedal but bent this back out as was runnign fine. This only seems to happen if the bike has been standing for a 2 or more weeks. This time it just seems to be worse.

I have spotted this (pic below) and wondered if it is the cause of my frustration. Should this bracket/pivot be bent?

Many thanks for any help offered!

Cheers!

First thing to do is adjust the lever end height down 1cm to make sure your big hoofing foot isn't stopping it getting all the way back to it's central position. The adjustment is on rod with the locknut on each end (one end is attached to "the bent bit"). One of those locknuts is an anti-clockwise thread. Loosen them both off and spin the whole rod around to make the adjustment.

Tad dangerous but if you lock the back wheel with the brake (and the clutch lever out), does this thereafter enable you to shift down?

If so, it's a case of the clutch plates seizing up. I've had that before.

Sorted! Very Happy

I think where the peg has bent it's slightly mis-shaped the pivot so its not round any more and rubbing a bit.

Cleaned it up with WD40 and packed it with some new grease and it's running a lot better now.

I had similar issues on the divvy when the bolt from the rear footpeg hangar worked it's way out and jammed under the gearshift. one recovery bloke (the supposed bike savvy one) said "get a new gearbox" Shocked, the non-biker took one look, wound the bolt back in and thread-locked it. Smile

Was fine after that.
