Heya.

Just wonderd, You can get these DAta Tool tracker things, So im guessing it tracks your bike if it gets stolen so you can find it again. But how do you find it? Do you ring up and they tell you were it is? Or do they inform the police where it is or what?

Im guessing you're referring to a tracker rather than datatools datatag which just marks parts of your bike rather than allowing it to be tracked.

This site should have all the info about motorcycle trackers: https://www.tracker.co.uk/motorbikes/

The idea is, you don't track it the police do. Most police cars are fitted with the equipment to recieve the signal and when they get within range it point them in the right direction untill they find it.

Nah the snitcher is pants, its more of a gimmick than anything, its only good for telling you that your bike has been nicked, the empty space in your garage should give it away though really.

The tracker stats for tracker retreive, tracker monitor and tracker echo are very impressive running at something like a 99% recovery.

The tracker echo even has the ability to remotely immobilise the vehicle after it has been stolen. The Echo is expenswive though.

If i had a brand new bike worth £5000 plus then i would definately get a tracker retreive fitted for £300 although the anuual subscription of £60 makes it expensive.

They're a waste of time imo. I work next door to navtrack and watch what they do at nights. Most cars seem to vanish, then reappear in Europe somewhere. I doubt a professional thief would be put off by it at all, once it's in the back of a van it can't be monitored anyway.

You better email them and warn them they are false advertising then.

The main problem is there's not many good places to hide it on a bike. I'd fit one on an expensive bike but not fit the warning stickers. No point in giving them a head start to find and disable it.

I think the tracker units can be split up around an engine or put in places like fuel tanks, i know they arent very big. I also think they have very good anti-tamper systems on them, ie if they lose power a small battery sends an alert to the tracker people etc. I have sat through a number of tracker presentations and meetings (yawn) so i forget the details.

The problem is they cant stop your bike getting wrecked by a joyrider. In the time it takes the police to respond your bike could be a write off. However i think your typical joyrider aims for scooters and dirt bikes rather then new 10k sports bikes for instance, thus your pro thief is gonna want to nick the more expensive bikes and keep them in one piece to strip or sell.

Ive seen the monthly reports and all the bikes with trackers stolen this year have been recovered, including ones in vans and containers.

not quite true... I know someone with tracker on his car. It broke down and it was getting towed to the dealers when he got a confused call from the tracker people saying "sir, are you aware that your vehicle is currently doing 70mph down the A1 with the ignition off?" Smile

Its quite scary, I think they can monitor your speed at all times.
