Hey,

For years now, in fact ever since i got my first bike, i've always used car engine oil in my bike engine. I've never bought the cheap stuff but always the expensive magnatec oil.

Just today i found out that your meant to use proper oil specifically for motorcycles, and that using car oil is detrimental to the bikes engine.

I've never actually bought proper motorcycle oil so was hoping you would all tell me what oil you use and which you recons the best.

Cheers,
Shaun.

£15 Halfords Semi Synthetic car oil. If it's changed regularly it's good enough for the job and causes no problems with the clutch.

Rock Oil - 10w40 oil...

Bog standard but it is keeping my completely knackered GS500 running past 90k (touch wood).

I used castrol GTX in my bikes for years although I did experience some trouble with clutch slip when I tried magnatech.

I now use Motoul oil from Hein Gericke but only because you get a free oil and air filter with it.

Hi

Normally BP Visco 3000 semi synthetic car oil, although the place I used to get it from has given up on BP so I will probably have to change.

All the best

Keith

The offer sounds insane! Is it free oil AND air?

Hopefully they'll have GS500E parts in stock.

Honest, but only if they have them in stock. I have a huge pile of GPZ air filters. They never have KLE ones in so I just tell them it is for my GPZ (same oil filter).

Toby, just in case you are not aware there is a bit of debate as weather to use synthetic oil in the GS.. My opinion is no. You know where to look if you want to know more.

Use Castrol R4 in the R6 as it seems to be much happier on fully synthetic oil.

Use GPS in the CB-1 and XR250 (well will do when it gets rebuilt).

Got a job lot of oil of a mate (e.g. two barrells of the stuff), hence I'll keep using it till I run out.
