Hi folks, just after another little snippet of advise if poss...

I currently have a punctured rear tyre which I think is too damaged to repair, for safety's sake I will replace it anyway!!

My front tyre is getting close to needing replacing too so I figured I may as well look into a new pair and get rid of the michelin macadams. Now having read the forum I have had my head turned towards track scrubbed tyres and hopefully have found a pair that I could try out, the problem is I dont know whether they are any good for my bike...

I ride a ZZR600 E1 and the tyres I am looking at are pirelli supercorsa pro's the front is a soft compound and the rear is medium compound. They bother have 4.6mm of tread left so hopefully will do me for a while at least. Are these tyres any good for general road riding? And for a sports tourer too? Would I have to expect them to wear out pretty quickly and if so (ballpark) how fast?

All advice appreciated

leigh

They'll work fine on your ZZR. Nice and sticky tyres.

However, considering they're part-worn already and have had some punishment on track, I'd be surprised if they last past 2000 miles.

If they're cheap though, they're well worth it.

Thanks for the reply, I actually just went ahead and got a brand new set of Bridgestone BT020 U's in the end, wll I say in the end my bike is being collected tomorrow morning to have them fitted so I should be out on the road in the afternoon again.

I have really missed not getting out on her for the last couple of days, it seems such a waste of a nice dry period!!

cheers

The 020's are a very good choice if you are going to ride in the wet. They should also last a good amount of time, I used to get 6000 miles from a pair on my ZZR1200 Thumbs Up

Yeah I think with winter approaching fast a bit of wet riding will be done Very Happy

I actually dont want to have to avoid going out for the sake of a bit of wet weather but I have to admit there are a few things that make me nervous in those conditions... Literally just before my test (just over a week ago now) I was doing a town ride round a test route and came out a junction with a double manhole cover across the whole road centre, as I got across my back wheel slipped from under me and luckily I managed to stay upright but I felt the bike going (it was chucking it down)

Although that didnt affect my test it has made me wary of metal grates and manhole covers now (how do you avoid them completely in wet conditions? And how on earth have they not found a bike friendly replacement for using bare metal on these things?)

Another is along the same lines really, gravel and loose leaves worry me slightly. As a new rider it would be nice to know how to avoid these kinds of hazards or how to prepare for them..

cheers

just replaced the punctured BT-020 rear on my ZZR, next time I'll get a set rather than just the one as It's given me a bit of bar wobble (50mph+ with no hands.. Wink ) but it's getting better now the rear is wearing a bit.

Out of interest how many of you replace the set of tyres at the same time regardless of wear? I would have though it better to have a matched pair so im interested in ppl's opinion

cheers
