Seen a poor lad in the road this morning on the corner of Lambeth Rd and Kennington road. Cops were just wheeling his silver moped away, he was laying in the road wrapped in a blanket (not his head though) with two paramedics bending over him. Not moving at all, poor sod. Hope he was ok.

Simple reason for this.

Winter's coming. Roads are starting to get damp in the morning. Light is getting poorer in the mornings/evenings.

I think November statistically has the highest rate of accidents due to the change in weather/lighting conditions. People forget that it's harder to drive in the dark, so make more mistakes and miss things they'd normally see in good light.

Time to dig out the high-viz gear me thinks!

I used to if it was foggy, or my parents were getting worried about me

for some reason it made them feel better, gave me a little extra confidence as well,

and it doesnt look that odd really, especially when on the bike,

I agree with Ferret.

Hi-vis may look gay if you're a power ranger/straightline hero. If you actually intend on arriving regularly at your destination, it's a damn good idea.

Ridden for 2 years without. Plus yellowy green colours blend in with hedges, making you less visible in the day. That's why (statistically speaking, in terms of not being seen by car drivers) green and yellow bikes are the most dangerous. Wereas a totally black outfit and bike and riding without headlights will contrast rather nicely with a low sun.

Have fun on your arse... Razz

That's such bollocks.

With the sun behind you, anything will look dark. Reflective jacket wrapped in xmas lights for example!

Again, if I'm riding with a reflective jacket on, I'm most likely not wearing it in the day, but if I am, I very much doubt anyone's going to mistake me for a hedge!!

Bare in mind I'm also riding a large, blue, very loud motorbike, and MOVING. Hedges don't do that.

Also, it's REFLECTIVE, hedges aren't.

Kthx.

Thats fair enough! I wasnt trying to say that you look like an idiot ( Dont think you thought I was saying that but hey! ) but im 17 now and when I was on a ped at 16 I was more concerned about wearing hoddies and looking Gangsta than actually thinking about safey..... Yes I even had neons Rolling Eyes

Won't stop a driver listening to loud music pulling out...

But the reflectiveness isn't as apparent as at night. Cat's eyes don't appear to illuminate in the day, do they?

Anyway, surely the hi-vis vest is little more use than a safety blanket. Some people must get complacent whilst wearing them because they consider it to be a safety item, so surely the complacency is just as dangerous as not being seen.

On the subject of hi-viz, does anyone have any comments on the use of an h-belt made from the really reflective lensy-type material compared with a jacket with the not-so-reflective grey-coloured material.

Well you could say the same thing about leathers and stuff.... And that is true in some cases.

Way I see it is, When im driving a car, I see a motorcycle with a yellow jacket, it dosnt really show up that well in my mirrors anyway.

But it could be a lifesaver if you end up in the road and it didnt get ripped off.

What ever floats your boat I guess, I personally like looking like a poweranger Rolling Eyes
