The wife and I have had an idea about our holiday plans next year, instead of spending 2 weeks trying to burn onself to a crisp on a beach it might be nice to have loads of smaller weekends away thoughout the year.
There are places in Europe that look worthy of a visit when flicking through magazines and on the TV, but we have no idea of what to do when we are actually there?
Any suggestions of destinations?
They cant all be dirty weekends away, so some serious, cultural suggestions to please ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

I was very impressed with the South of France this summer, there are some really nice towns to visit (Aux en Provence comes to mind), you could sample the whole 'café culture' for a few hours ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

Any of the major Italian cities - Rome, Florence etc - all steeped in history and very romantic.
Amsterdam is not all seedy strip joints and coffee shops - but they're the best bits.
Also consider going to Eastern Europe - Krakow in Poland is really nice and historic with lots of very cheap food and beer, and Talinn in Estonia is the same but a bit more touristy. I won't mention the hoardes of very fit young ladies in both those places seeing as your missus will be there |

Bratislava is another good one. Your money will go a very long way
79p a pint, I seem to recall.
The old town is beautiful, too.
Not too touristy, either. ____________________ the warped one: This is a follow up from the thread 'my willy hurts'

Most of Eastern Europe fits the bill, nice and cheap and not too spoilt and only an hour or 2 on the plane making it ideal for a long weekend. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Berlin - It's cheap enough to get there; I paid around £10 for a return flight from Stansted earlier this year and £60 for two nights in a nice hotel through Laterooms.com
History and nightlife is good and I'd recommend you do a couple of these tours whilst you're there

I got taken to Barcelona for my birthday last year, (in January) and it's a lovely city. Lots of art including the Gaudi architecture and a couple of really good galleries, also a boat museum in the medieval shipyards that we went in for a laugh but turned out to be really interesting!
Cable car ride across the harbour was fun, the parks are beautiful, the food & nightlife were great (night in a pirate bar anyone? Ahoy me hearties!) and there's some pretty good shopping too.
And if you go when the weather's good it has a beach too...... ____________________ Sod falling in love, I wanna fall in chocolate. |
