Only 4% of recorded accidents a year are directly related to excess speed. This means that even if speed cameras were 100% successful in stopping speeding on our roads, they can only reduce the overall accident level and hence "safety" on our roads by 4%!

I would have no problem if the government will just admit they are only there to generate cash.....Then remove the points system Thumbs Up The fines can stay, or even go up as far as i'm concerned, but points ruin peoples lives. Beside's once a persons knocked up to many points that's that, they are off the roads and no longer paying a fine. If the objectives to get money why not just let them continue to drive without licence/insurance being effected etc and keep on fining him/her Question Idea

my thoughts were the opposite if you want to avoid the making money lablel , remove the fines! ,

but $$$ instead of points used to happen in Ireland and I think still occurs in the US/Canada/Aus Sweden. it just allows wealthy people to do what they want on the roads, which means that footballers will drive like nuts (or rather will drive more so , ever been to Alderly edge footballer town with lots of those bastid , wheel hubs that continue to rotate when the tank is stopped , which makes filtering confusing).

So make the fines income accessed Idea The more you earn the steeper the fine.

I'd agree with that , Sweden has something similar I believe where this millionaire got 100K or so as a speeding fine, but on principle I agree bans + points ruin lives, which actually tilts the system in favour of people with families.

I was pulled on the way down to Snetterton under just such circumstances!

I had been running all the specs cameras at 100+ all the way down one of the major ring roads (3 and 4 lanes at some points) and the camera people called the cops in to drop a car in behind me after one of the slip roads.

Got away with 3 points and £60 (fair copper) Thumbs Up but it proves that they can get you like that
