Is it me.

But everything i've purchased with that name has not been of a good quality, to be honest mediocre at best.

The name is Oxford, but most looks cheap Chinese plastic.

I have one of their tankbags and the humpback panniers, after several recommendations from other people. The only gripe i have is the so-called 'waterproof' covers are shite. The luggage itself seems ok so far though.

Doesn't a lot of the Oxford stuff have a lifetime guarantee too? Might be worth taking it up with them if you've been sold some sub-standard gear...

I'm going to need some hot grips as well.

But the only supplier seems to be Oxford.

If I remember correctly there was a product recall on them from Oxford last year.

Ohh great, when you've just glued them on.

. . . and yet made of cheese. I wouldn't buy Oxford security products, there's better available for less money. As far as I'm aware they don't actually manufacture the goods themselves, just source the bits abroad and stick a badge on them. Some of their luggage is OK, that's about all I'd buy though.

I got a disc lock for £5 delivery charge £0 cost and its pretty solid. Finish is shocking but you don't buy a lock for the finish. The lock mechanism is fairly simple but at least it can't be bumped (it's a cylinder lock rather than a pin lock)

I have a lot of oxford stuff.

I have a complete soft luggage set - Panniers, TailPack and TankBag.

The panniers only lasted about 3 trips before they developed a tear in them. The tail pack is rarely used so that is in top condition.

But the tankbag is the real star of the show. That tankbag has been permanently on my bike now for almost a year now. Its been through wind, rain, snow, ice, and never complained. Ok so i had to smash through the frost last xmas to undo the zip, but that was it Thumbs Up

So if i was basing this on the tankbag alone, then i would say oxford make fantastic stuff, however the panniers have torn and i havent been overly impressed with the quality of a few other things i have from them over the last 2 years.

Personally i think its great for deciding if you want something. By that i mean you can get say a set of panniers, from their "1st time" range for a very affordable price, and see if you do actually make use of them before splashing out £50+ for a set of HG ones that you would never use.

Thats just my oppinion anyway Thumbs Up

I have the oxford first time panniers and they seem great to me, especially for 35 quid. Never had any worries about the quality.

I also have an oxford monster lock, which to be fair does seem a bit shit. Again I got it really cheap on ebay and it looks sturdy (which is a big part of the job of a lock if you ask me). The lock itself sticks a bit but I've cured that through regular applications of WD40. But considering the fact that it's lived outside for a year chained to a post it could of performed alot worse...

As others have said I think the oxford luggage is great, but most of their other products seem a bit tatty.

I have an Oxford bum bag/visor carrier thingy that I use for commuting on a daily basis (OK so that's only been for the past month or so), but I have no problems with the quality etc.
It hasn't been fully tested in a torrential downpour yet, but seems to be good for the money IMO

EDIT: Almost forgot, I've also got some Oxford Hot Grips which were already fitted to the bike when I bought it... and recently bought some Oxford inner gloves ready for the winter - but haven't road tested either of them yet.

AFAIK there are three different levels of Oxford Luggage.

First time
Lifetime
& Hump back

I had some Lifetime panniers and they were exellent bar the shitty waterproof cover which split within 1/2 a mile.

got some Oxford soft panniers (not used yet) for 30 quid or so. The best thing Oxford sell? That Black rubberised anti-slip luggage matting that you can chuck down to stop things sliding around (great for rugs on laminate flooring.. Smile ). I chucked some onto the whole bike seat and it stops me sliding around and Mrs. K. from sliding into the back of me under harsh braking circumstances... Smile

I've got oxford panniers and a tail pack.

I even fell off with the tail pack on and it survived just fine.

I think they're fairly budget stuff, but the quality is perfectly good. A mate had a set of their adjustable heated grips too, they seemed quite nice quality too.

Ive been using an oxford disk lock (all my local dealer sells is oxford)

anyway, when I went to use the lock yesterday, I discovered the entire lock barrel was missing, a small pin had come out and so the whole mechanism had just fallen off as I was riding.

They have a factory or something in the town next to mine so Im gonna take it over there see what they have to say about it Smile

I've had an Oxford ROC lock for years now. Thumbs Up

Superb piece of kit. You can't get them anymore I don't think.

The only gripe I have with it, is that you can only really use it at home, the thing is so bloody heavy you can't carry it anywhere.
(Well not for long anyway).

Oxford do a range of quailty, from crap to excellent

I've got the Oxford "First Time" tail pack, and frankly it's cheap crap, but what do you expect for £5.99.

The Oxford "Lifetime" tankbag I've got is a bloody brilliant bit of kit, really well made.

I think the biggest problem with Oxford is they don't vet their retailers very well, so a lot of the not-very-good bike shops end up only stocking cheap Oxford stuff, hence the slightly dodgy reputation.

Oh, and the whole thing with the disk locks that opened with a biro didn't help either

I've got Oxford Humpback panniers and tailpack/tankbag.
Did ok during my 3000 mile jaunt round Yurrup this year, my only complaints are:

One of the panniers split when i was doing it up, skillfully repaired using Duck tape.

Lost one of the pannier's waterproof covers on the Autoroute somewhere near Caen. Skillfully replaced with a bin liner and a couple of bungee cords. Ffs it's bike luggage, why not make 'em waterproof to start with??

One of my mates who came with me on my Yurrupian jaunt had Oxford Lifetime panniers which drooped onto the exhaust and melted the plasticy insides all over his bird's clothes. The resulting shopping bill was quite horrendous!!
Very Happy
