i was looking one ebay at this thing called a smart tre for my sv, apparantly it can make it faster. does anyone kinow anything about it and is it a good idea or not. heres the link:

The bike's control unit has built into it a restriction to limit the rev range in the first few gears, this thing fools it into thinking it is in a high gear all the time and so removes that restriction.

It won't increase the bikes top end speed, it will mean you'll be able to change gear a bit later in the first few gears. Will that make a significant difference? who knows.

Maybe Suzuki had a reason (besides spite, obv) for building the restriction in?

the difference that these units make is quite small, i think they just put the timing back to what it should since suzuki change it in 2nd gear and other places so they past noise and other regs. go and chat to the guys over here https://forums.sv650.org/ they will know a load more.

They were origanally brought out for the 1000 as Suzuki had strangled them due to them flipping under the power with a short wheel base.

IMO practically useless on the 650 they would be sold with the SV650 ash tray and air freshner. Wink

I was thinking of getting one too, but apparently they're not worth the money, especially as a DIY TRE mod is supposedly quite easy, there's a guide on the www.sv650.org main site, I'll see if I can find a link to it...

Give the bloke some credit - it's a SMART TRE which shunts the resistor out when the bike is in neutral.

So, with the additional relay required, that'll be a total component cost of about £1.10 and opposed to £1.00, then Smile
