Motorbikes in Bus Lanes

Dear Mayor,

In September 2002 TfL conducted an experimentation in four areas that allowed PTW's to use bus lanes. Following a report in November 2004 it was concluded that the experiment would continue for a further 18 months before reaching a decision with regards to the effect of the scheme, and potentially 'roll out' the scheme across the whole of TfL's area. As the 18 months is 'up', there has been no report published or any decision from either your office or TfL.

As a regular user of a motorbike and London resident I am now hoping that your office can pass the necessary legislation to allow PTW's to use all bus lanes in the London area. Clearly the advantages are that it would encourage more drivers to consider using this mode of transport, reducing traffic, congestion on public transport and allow individuals greater mobility in and around London.

I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours sincerely

Head Lamp

- There's been absolutely nothing about this in the press or anywhere else so I thought I'd resurrect this little hobby horse of mine!! Wink When I get the reply (in about two or three weeks time, I'll post it up)

Some bus lanes by my fiancée's house permit PTWs, which is great for when there's lots of traffic! Very Happy

Yes - my point to him is that unless you are aware of the Motorcycle Working Group in TfL, then you are not going to know what's going on...clearly the procrastination is political - they don't want to upset the pedal pusher lobby who are opposed to this....however I have not seen any figures that would suggest the cyclists should be against it (i.e. siginificantly more accidents involving cyclists & motorbikes in bus lanes). Personally I think the lycra louts are opposed as it will show them up for their appalling behaviour on the road - jumping red lights going on the pavements etc...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
