Flat spot at 6000rpm on GS500E

Firstly I would like to say hello to everyone its my 1st post.
I have searched the history messages and I cant find a cure yet, anyway the problem started after I removed the metal restrictor washers from the carb inlet. I took it for a test blast and realised the top end I was missing, however the sticky spot midway is a bit annoying. Is there anything I can do to lose it a little as I dont really want to thrash it everywhere just to get it to run nice. Its my first 4 stroke and I thought it was the 2 strokes that mostly suffered this problem. cheers

Hi jono73 and welcome.
First is the bike standard other than you removed the restrictors.

Well it was well kept by a 64 yr old born again biker for 9 yrs so as far as I know its standard in terms of jets filters etc I do have a Z-ex pipe going on soon which I nicked off ebay. A mechanic guy said that its normal for that much top end power to get a mid range flat spot and he even went as far to advise putting them back in for more mid power ?? But I doubt a standard bike would choke up like this before hitting a powerband it gets to 110mph quite quick. The only thing I can possibly think is that the left carb air filter rubber is awkward to tighten so is left kind of half tight

To check if it is sucking in air from the left rubber spray some wd40 on the
rubber with the bike started and see if the rpm goes up or down.
Wash the wd40 of when finished.
The power band on a four stroke is totally different to a two stroke.

the gs's do have a flat spot at the 5 to 6k rpm.
a free'r fowing exhaust got rid of mine. but it was never restricted.

i would say that if the washers were put in there has probly been something else done as well, normally the jets get changed as well

No and to be honest i wouldnt know where to start, but i'm sure with a feed of info I could have a go. Would this smooth it out a bit, I spoke to the fella who installed them and he said he didn't mince around it was tank off airbox off carbs out washers in job done.

You need some vacuum gauges to balance the carbs (or good hearing, a lot of experience and a rubber tube).
