I have been thinking of getting another bike and have been
leaning towards a R1 but then again I have an open mind
on the subject Shocked as a retro fan I don't know much about the
sports bikes availible, I am 6"4 so leg room is quite important as
well as handling and performance so any imput would be appriciated Wink

Really need to go to a showroom and have a sit on one, you'll know pretty fast if its not going to be suitable, tbh i'd imagine its going to be pretty cramped! like a bear rideing a weevil, a similarly tall mate has an Aprilia Mille and seems to be pretty happy with that fitting on wise..

The latest R1s don't seem to have changed too much in terms of physical dimensions - or is it just my eye? In fact, I've read reviews where they mention that the latest model is the more of the sports tourer of the pack (in the way that it is supposedly more comfortable over longer distances with slightly softer suspension).

Other larger sportsbikes that spring to mind are the previous ZX9Rs, Busas, Blackbirds and the like.

Why not pop down your local dealers and have a go on some?

It is a bit of an eye bleeder. I would be prepared to pay more attention to posts of the MESSIAH if he didn't insist on using red caps.

After all, he is er...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I've got a sorted zx9, have ridden r1s, though not the GSXR thou.

The ZX9 would be the best choice if you want a bike to use generally, I find the riding position more comfy, though I actually quite like mine with rear set rearsets.
A stock one does need more effort to keep up, but given that effort, it's going to be down to the rider, rather than the bike given a gaggle of litre bikes.
It's defenitly lacking a bit of the sparkle of the newer designs as far as the performance goes.

The R1 is more flightly and snappy feeling, both in the handling and the power.
It's definitely a bike that makes it clear you're the limiting factor, not the bike. It wants you to use it more.
Power is reasonable and due to the light chassis and geomtery will happily paw the sky at legal speeds in low gears.
The bike it's self feels quite compact when sitting on it, more like a 400 than a litre bike.

Haven't ridden that GSXR thou, but have ridden similar GSXR 750s. The bike is physically bigger than the R1 and the K1/K2 models are supposed to have one of the best engines for range of torque - definitely better than the sports twins out there as far as I know. Handling should be a bit more neutral than the R1, but will do what it's told with decent accuracy. If I didn't care about my licence, I could be quite tempted by a K1/K2 GSXR1000, but in the real world I know I will try and use some of it's abilities.

Hopefully be sorting the zx9 out with an MOT for this winter as a commuter/stunt bike. However for me I found that to really enjoy riding it I had to be going stupidly quick - and that isn't good for your licence or your health.
Enjoyed riding my 53hp RS250 on the road more.

However, I'm now sorting out my 3rd year of club racing, so maybe not the typical road rider to compare to.
