Hello all

some scrote has nicked off with my recently bought right hand fairing for the RS.
It was in my girlfriends garage and she'd forgotten to shut the door, she did later (not checking the bike) I got to it this morning and the right fairing is missing.

Now I don't understand; I can only assume they were trying to get to the engine to get it started, but there was no signs of the steering lock or ignition barrel being tampered with, just no right fairing.

This is really gutting due to me trying to sell the bike.

Her parents are going to try and claim on house insurance but is it worth it? I'm at a bit of a loss.

I don't think that they'd be wanting to look engine at all. My view is some chav crashed his, seen how much replacement fairings are, and decided to nick a good condition one instead.

edit: just read your sig, was it a custom paint job? if so it is most strange. If they really wanted to nick the bike they would have done so I reckon, as;attempting to steal a bike then realising they couldn't, and taking a fairing is too weird.
Did they take all of the fairing bolts out, or was it smashed off ?

but I've never in my life seen a silver RS other than mine. And it's a bit of a massive coincedence do you not think?

that's where I picked it up from.

Wouldn't it be ironic if I had bought a stolen part, the original owner had tracked me down, followed me for three weeks and then struck when the time was right.

....

or it's some theiving scrote from scrotesville trying to find a trophy to show the scrotes in his scrote-bedsit how much of a scrote he is.

Hi

The silver colour scheme was very common on the RS in the late 1990s. All the SP ones I have seen were that colour.

All the best

Keith, had they been meaning to take the whole bike would they have been able to fiddle with the engine to get it started from the right hand side of the cylinder?

Also how easy are the older RSs to hotwire/break the steering lock?

Hi

Errr, not sure I really should answer that. Suffice to say if they knew what they were doing then lifting the tank would give them the access to have the engine running on an early RS125. Steering lock could probably be broken off.

Under the right hand fairing they only really gain access to the rotor.

All the best

Keith

so either they were complete idiots or just wanted the fairing?

The tank hadn't been touched, fuel line was intact, tap was on.

It's very strange though.
