update on the zzr furry crumble

Hi there

thought it might be a good time to update in the various potions and lotions i tried on my zzr following all of your advise.

Bike seems to be cleaning up quite well, i tried the sugarsoap, the metal polish/ autosol etc, but disappointingly the piece of engine casing which is usually under the bellypan is resisting all attempts at making it shine Sad

i think to make it shiney i'll have to remove it an buff it up......not sure whether i have the time or energy for that....the new shiny bellypan has arrived and will cover it shinely!!!

Starting to think that i should have spent more cash on a bike that didn't need bits replacing, list so far includes:

1) new bellypan
2) new radiator
3) new oil cooler
4) new front fairing
5) new screen (although i got this cause i liked it!)

to be fair i replaced the radiator and cooler not cause they were leaking but because they were damaged and it seemed sensible to replace them whilst the fairing was off.

All i need to do now is replace the connectors from most of the hoses as they have rusted away (anyone know where to get those bits from as used ones all look as rusty?)

...i wouldn't have had as much fun though Wink

I have been starting to have the same thoughts "should I have spent more and got a better bike" I suppose though its a lottery when you buy any used vehicle. In my case I have replaced the tyres front and rear and a new battery but now the thing wont start at all so there is clearly another electrical problem somewhere Crying or Very sad

As you say though it would not have been as much fun, this way I have had to learn about the bike gradually and am slowly getting used to it all. Next job for me before winter is to strip the brakes down and replace all the pads (not looking forward to that one!)

Hmmm, with winter decending the list of things to do seems endless and the light in which to do it definetly isn't!!!

If you stand back and look at it (the zzr) with a slight squint it looks pretty fab and at least its only easy mainly cosmetic stuff that needs sorting, the engine has been well maintained/ regularly surfaced, its just that anything slightly vulnerable has been eaten!!

Sounds good too! Still waitin for my licence to arrive so i can do my DAS so i have to make do with polishing and sitting on it and revving the engine!

Sorry to hear about engine troubles, what bike?

I got to admit it is a lovely looking bike especially for its year, the engine problem I had is now sorted but basically one of the connections from the ignition had corroded so the bike was dead. Got it fixed today though...

My ZZR will be getting stripped down soon I think and given a respray and full external clean/polish.

I think of the used commuters/ sporty tourer's the zzr offers the best value for money to buy, and luckily loads of spares are available cheaply (particularly on fleabay).

The other thing is that the looks havent really dated that much, mines a 97/98 and looks largely the same as all the other zzr's (up to 2003 i think)

glad to hear that the engines fixed, wish i had the space to properly strip and rebuild, good luck with yours
