Reflective tape 2

Following on from my previous thread, I have now attached some reflective tape to my Givi top box and a single strip across the lower windshield. As I said before, I don't mind tape on the top box and it should come off the windshield when I come to sell the bike, if not I can always get a new windshield. Anyway, it seems to make a big difference (the pictures from the front were shot in a dark garage with light coming through the door with and without the flash).

The big dark area now is the side of the bike.

I'm still loath to put tape on the bike itself, as it may strip paintwork, so I've ordered some magnetic mat and will attach tape to that before attaching it to the side of the radiator bracket. Alternatively I could bite the bullet and attach blue tape (almost the same colour as the bike, not bothered if it breaks any regulations - I can apply it just underneath the Z750S so I can say it is for advertising purposes) to the paintwork on the rear fairing and possibly the side fairing. I've also been thinking about some rim tape from EBay (picture below).

The red and orange are part of the top box, I think..Not strips but reflective plastic.

Rimtape looks good. Might confuse, though..

Realy like the rimtape mate Thats what i was hoping for when i did mine, but it turns out its not reflective after all

Definately going to invest in something like that for the winter months! Very good idea

I got the tape (red, white, yellow and blue) from:

but there are plenty of other places, including EBay, that have it in loads of colours. I specifically wanted 3M diamond grade.

The rim tape is something I am considering, not yet added. I've seen it on EBay:

Motrax do 2 sizes of reflective rim tape in a few colours should be getting some myself soon seen as the dark evenings are in

But any Sign maker who works with vinyl should be able to make up any 3M diamond graphics to you specification!

Decided to get the magnetic mat and use yellow/blue tape for highest visibility. Cut it to size and attached it to the swingarm/tank (radiator bracket is non-ferrous so the mat won't stick to it ). Can be removed in seconds when not required (in good weather/daylight). Here's the pictures. Sorry about quality, seem to have mislaid my decent camera so had to use the one in the videocam.

No excuse for not seeing you now (well, unless they claim they were dazzled )

If you're sticking reflective tape on the 'bike you need to make sure you keep to the C&U regulations. Reflective tape is classed as a light source, so you musn't have red showing to the front and you can only have red showing to the rear.

You can have any colour on the sides, and attached to the rider (which is why high-viz waistcoats with white reflective bands are OK).

I've only got red to the rear and white to the front. The side has yellow/blue stripes which are highly visible (and easily detachable because they're on the magnetic pads).

There are a lot of exemptions to those regulations (eg all HGVs must have amber/yellow reflecting to the rear).

Traffic signs, attached to a vehicle, may reflect light of any colour.
