i washed my bike last week and rode into work.
i stopped at some lights and a courier levelled up to me on the usual filthy 500cc bike with torn, mute coloured textiles and tank bag to match.
he looks, then says "too shiny" i turn my head and say "what?"
"too shiny mate"
"o.k................?" was my slow reply
we part company and i begin to laugh.
not only was this the first time a courier has spoken to me but he decided to take the piss by pointing out that my bike don't look like it's been dropped of a building and ridden into the Thames.
Fair play,
is anyone here a courier and do you ever wash your bikes?
let's assume for now you don't so what do you do to keep them on the road and in working order?
they always look so caned yet they never seem to break down
sorry if i jinx anyone
BTW you guys ride like legends |

It is a good idea to clean a bike to see if anythings come loose, Thats one of the only reasons why I clean my bike
But lets face it, being a courier is a very hard job, I dont think I could be arsed to even look at my bike if I just done a horrible 12 hour shift sweeting my balls off or freezing them off. Let alone clean it! |

I get the opposite effect with worn textiles and more often than not lots of luggage , I get couriers pulling up next to me sometimes saying hello , sometimes asking what company I work for (since I'm not a courier I don't have a company sticker on the side of me bike) ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. yeah, they're nutters of a similar breed. |
I'd happily deliver pizza, but i've never found a place with anything other than mopeds rond here. In worthing and brighton, they used to have DT-125's, I wouldn't mind that so much. |

ive got a dirty old 500 lol, well its not always dirty but it does get fucking clarted lol, should of seen it the other week covered in mud, and when i say covered i mean COVERED.
but i do clean my bike, but thats usualy before i do a little bit of work on it, i hate working on dirty bikes plus now winters on its way ive been rubbing the 2 stroke oil into it to stop it from rusting away before my eyes.
and i should imagine if ur job is to ride your bike all day you should be able to feel when somthing is on its way out, like im gonna need a new throtle cable soon, and i need to put the spacer that keeps the chain hitting the chain guard back on.
i dont know about other people but i can feel when theres something not right with my bike.
EDIT - just read that back to my self i wish my job was to ride my 500 twin all day like a nut case, id much prefer it to being a maintinance engineer, altho i do love my current job.
and saying that i wouldnt mind being a pizza delivary boy, i loved my MBK scooter lol was a right wheelie machine good round corners as well centre stand scraping at every round about no matter how small. ____________________ Current .. 2008 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure ..

Do you have any idea what fun it is to out ride the shiny new bike brigade on a filthy, dirty P.O.S. ?
Why would I bother to clean a bike that I'm gonna throw away/put on ebay for rock bottom price in six months time?
incidently the work Bros400 will be in the for sale section later today. |
