IMO If you passing full test, and are sensible in riding, get a bigger bike not 125. They are much more stable and easy to handle. Also, getting upto speed limits would be a lot easier! Thumbs Up

Cheers,
Dew

I'm assuming that your over 21.

Do not get a 125, you'll be bored in week.

Good luck.

Here here Wink

Just do the DAS and buy a big bike straight away, just remember to take things gentle and at your own pace and you'll be fine.

Definitely get a bigger bike. I am 39 , had zero biking experience before August, did CBT+ 4 lessons + test, then bought a 600 hornet. Great fun. 125's are only for people NOT doing DAS. There's no point wasting money on direct access if you're gonna get one. At your age you should have more sense in your right hand Smile

I'm guessing that you're thinking the same thing that I did when I was doing my lessons..... "get a 125 and I can use it now, plus if I fail my test I've got a bike I can use, its all practice ....." etc. DON'T DO IT! Wait till you pass your test and get a big bike. A 125 will have you bored in no time, plus if you get a small bike now I don't think you have the same determination to pass your test as you do if you're heading for a big bike.

Just my opinion of course, but save your money for the Big Boy Thumbs Up

Hi

I would not go for the 125 in your situation. Would say to avoid high performance bikes though. 600 Hornet, 600 Bandit, something like that, would be good to gain experience on.

All the best

Keith

At 31 you are more likley to be sensible regarding you're right hand actions ,I was in the same situation as you are in now and i bought an r6,You are in charge of the bike the bike is not in charge of you.

But with total 2 wheel experience being a week wobbling round on a 500 twin, someone who has just passed their test is not really experienced enough to take charge of higher performance bikes.

Being 31 with substantial driving experience has given plenty of time to get into bad habits that can be rather nastier on a bike (like braking while cornering).

All the best

Keith

Agree on that. Although I like 125 2 squeaks I suspect he would get frustrated with one.

All the best

Don't get a 125. Use the lure of a big bike as the impetus to focus on passing your test...and the reward for really applying yourself.
Very Happy

I did my DAS last year at 44, and I hated ( really hated) buzzing about on the school's 125. At 16 stone it wasn't fun.

I've done 12 months on big bikes.... and guess what you don't need to ride like a loon to enjoy it.

Also a dozy car driver on the mobile does not discriminate on the grounds of engine capacity when he/she takes you out Sad

Good luck with the DAS m8.

As was said earlier though, 600 along the lines of a Hornet or a Bandit is a really good "in-betweeny" bike - a good one to get experience on.

I had a Hornet as my first big bike and boy what a difference to the ER-5!! Size wise it was similar, seating was similar but the power difference was something I wasn't quite expecting. Now I've got a CBR600RR and thats different again, different seating position, loads more powerful. I'm pleased I went with the Hornet first though - as I say it gives you the experience of a big bike before moving on....
