....What restrictions you have on a new bike.

My mate just bought a new Fazer 600 and I cant remember what is the max speed you can go to run the engine in. I know you can only go about 7000rpm and you have to do it for about 600-700 miles.

Can you help?

ta.

just take it easy, and don't thrash it...

but you'll now get a whole host of people giving you lists of RPMs that should not be exceeded until specific mileages have been completed.

What feef says. The trick is just not to go mad for about the first 1000 miles or so. It's less speed, more rev critical, really. Thumbs Up

Simplest guage - don't go any higher than 50% on the revs... assuming 100% = whatever redline is on the guage.

Personally, feel the mileage folks gives is always way over that necessary. 2 to 300 should be sufficient. Then head to 70% on the guage for another 2 to 300, then nail it to the stop.

Best thing to do is check the owners manual. It will have a section devoted to the running in procedure. As above just take it easy for the first 1000 miles or so. On most bikes this is keep the rpm down to 6/7k or so but on the whole it's a guideline not an absolute rule. The most important thing is that first service at 600miles. If nothing else, failing to get it done on time can invalidate the warranty.

O god, not another how to run in a bike topic.

Basically advice will vary from person to person.

It's best to vary the load and revs. DONT give it full throttle.

Although it is ok to let the bike rev out under light load to help prevent bore glazing and to help various parts of the engine stretch and bed in.

Avoid using the same revs for a long time.

As irving has said its in the manual, if your mate can't read give the manual to someone who can for him. He will also need to know the milage for the first service so the warrenty stays intact.

The manual will have chain tension, fluid levels...etc. If the dealer hasn't given it him tell him he NEEDS to get it and the service book.

All good but does anyone have an idea about top speed to go to?

We know th revs and how long for just the speed any ideas?

If not I'll tell him again to phone the dealer and YES Big_Ham it is another how to run a bike thread. As it is a BIKE CHAT FORUM.

Cheers

Neil
