Why won't my RS125 fire?

Hi all, can anyone give me any advice?

Was riding back from work the other day when my bike just conked out. I still had ignition but the piston was not firing.

The starter seems fine, the piston is moving freely. I have changed the spark plug, but it will not fire. I have tested it against the engine cover, and there is no visible spark. I would naturally assume that it is the coil or HT lead, but I find it a bit odd that this would just go as it did whilst riding. Any ideas or similar problems folks?

Could be ignition coil / CDI / Pickup coil failure without prior warning. May also be a wiring fault, connector come unplugged etc. I'm afraid it's fault finding time.

If you have a manual and a multimeter there are generally test patterns for most of the components. If the wiring is at fault it's a case of taking said multimeter and checking everything against the wiring diagram. Without test info for any of the components it becomes a turkey shoot .
