Seeing as the sun ain't likely to last very long, Im thinking its time to invest in some waterproofs. At the moment the only clobber Ive got are some alpinestars gloves and a matching leather jacket. The jacket is well comfy so ideally i'm looking for something to go over the jacket, is that a good idea? And do alpinestars do something like this?

Also, what boots do you lot have and do you have any recommendations?

I just use a cheap thin jacket and waterproof trousers to pull over my jacket and jeans when it rains, or sometimes i wear my waterproof buffalo bike jacket.

how effective do you find it? one thing i always find is that when i get caught out by the rain, the colour from my jacket runs through onto my clothes, i stay dry but then my tops are ruined, its a nightmare!

works fine, but most of the time i dont bother with waterproofs, its easier to just get wet. Only wear them if its raining hard when i leave home.

I assume that you have a leather jacket? You can get stuff to make your leathers more water resistant, so you shouldn't need waterproofs over your jacket. You can get waterproof over-trousers for about £10, and they should do the job.

Go to a local camping outdoor type shop and have a look at their products for water proofing etc.

I use them on my jacket (the seams and the fabric panels) and when I've been caught in light rain I've stayed dry (I don't really ride in the wet a great deal).

I also have over trousers and a top, the top is thin and breathable (came from an outdoor type shop again) and works really well and as it folds up small can fit in my bags etc without taking up too much room.
