|
I've finally bit the bullet and am booked into get my eyes fixed Star Wars stylee on Saturday.
I spoke to a very helpful chap on BCF sometime ago, sorry I forget who , but I think it was him who pointed to me towards Ebay.
I was searching around on the 'net and decided on www.optimax.co.uk as they had a clinic near me and their prices weren't horrendous. Also, obviously I've done some research into this and the feedback on them is very good.
I phoned up today just to book the consultation but the bloke on the phone said if I'm suitable they can do me there and then He said it would cost £1250 so I mentioned I've seen it advertised on Ebay for £895 for both eyes and he said just give me your username and the auction number and you can have it for the reduced price.
So fingers crossed after Saturday I'll have 20/20 vision.
Anyone else had it done?

had to put up with the pain of putting contacts in for years.
if i had 1000 pounds going spare to spend on it i would have it done but thats a lot of beer money ____________________ bikes owned :-

I like the idea of it, but think the technology isn't mature enough. The eye isn't exactly designed to have a layer burnt off, and it isn't a permanent solution. Can't help wondering what people would think when, having had laser surgery in their 30s/40s, they find that their eyes are screwed in their 60s, and in a position where they can't have surgery due to lack of material. Just a thought. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

I'm not normally like this, but the idea of someone lasering my eyes turns my stomach. And like Shaggy, I wonder about the effects in twenty or thirty years from now...
I'll stick with contact lenses I think, but hope all goes well

I had my eyes done by Optimax.
I had Implant Lenses though, meaning in the future if needs be the procedure can be reversed by removing the lenses.
Where are you having it done, in London? ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I'm having it done in Croydon. Looking forward to it but a bit nervous TBH. I'm sure it will go fine but there's always the nagging doubt. I've read a lot of reviews on the net and most people give them 5/5 so I'm sure it'll be OK.
It's supposed to be quite painful once the anaesthetic wears off but they give you loads of painkillers and sedatives so shouldn't be too bad. |
Are you having LASIK/LASEK?
I think it's a bit more sore than the surgery I had as it's more 'intrusive'. Still, they'll pump you full of morphine! You wont feel much, all I remember is freaking out that I could see the surgeon implanting the lens. Going from completely blurred to near 20/20 in 2 seconds is quite weird considering I was -11 in each eye before, now I'm slightly long sighted!
I'm due to go back for a bit more correction for my astigmatism, but that could be corrected with specs, depends if I want to pay or not.
I would recommend to anyone that if you want it done, go for it.
There are new procedures that dont even require the surgeon to make the incision, it's all mapped and performed my laser. Laser surgery is nowhere near as primitive as it was 5-10 years ago.
Hey! Two years ago, I was being told I could NEVER EVER have it done, now I have as close to 20/20 as I can for now, I'm well chuffed. Best £2k I've spent, well, apart from on the motorbike of course!
Good luck fella! ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Hi,
you'll be quite amazed by the eye. However you are very correct, it's not a 100% permenant fix. As you get older, your eyesight naturally deteriorates, no amount of laser surgery can control this as it inside the eye that the tissue just gets old and degradres.
I think by my 50's my eyesight will start go 'long', but I'm fortunate in that I can have the lenses adjusted accordingly so I could still have 20/20 vision unil I die if I choose to keep the lenses updated. My operation is similar to a cataract operation, but they leave the natual lens in place.
I found Optimax very honest at the time. They said I could have poor night vision and they were right. It has diminished a bit, but it's still safe for me to drive etc.
I think a lot of people get fooled by TV adverts saying £395 per eye. Sounds a bargain. BUT that is for the most basic (read barbaric) procedure that has been around donkey's years.
I have been really impressed by the place and I hope Joe is too. If anyoe want to ask me about it, fell free to PM me. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

I have thought about having this procedure, cos messing around with contacts and specs is a pain.
Post a full report about your procedure and the results please |

Your getting it done in Croydon?!?!?!?!?
Er, lovely place.
I especially like the clinical waste bin by the front door.
But I am sure it is lovely inside ____________________ My fingers smell of your mum. |

I got it done this jan! Probably the best thing to do. I was fed up wearing specs and contacts so took the plunge. Ensured that am going for the best possible option in that, which was i think waverfront ... and it costed me only £400..
Mind you that was on holiday to india... !

I know you have to wear sunglasses when you've had it done - my mum had the op a few years ago and all went well
So you shall be walking about in sunglasses in winter, so not to damage your new techno eyes.
Bono wears sunglasses all the time.
Bono is a twat, though. ____________________ You ain't a has been if you never was |

I'll be sticking with glasses/contacts for a while yet I think. Not that I could afford the surgery anyway.
Best of luck with it though Joe. ____________________ Photos and that |
