Well, Small paul, you've first got to ask yourself what your expectations are from these bikes and what your abilities are in relation to these bikes. For a first timer you could be overstretching yourself as far as bikes ability and yours is concerned. Power/Weight ratio on these bikes is quite awesome and if you are unfortunate to have an early 'off' it could put you off biking for ever. Why not consider a Hornet or a Bandit or even a Fazer. Certainly less power but just as much fun, and when you've a got few miles/months experience under your belt, then perhaps you could consider getting one of these race replica's, because that's what they are, in the future. Don't be seduced by the paint job and the fine lines, they take a lot of handling and for a newbie, they could be jump too far straight off CBT and DAS.

hey,

i completely agree with mark, dont be getting anything too powerful just yet, spend a few months on a smaller bike, just so you get used to riding, the first few months is critical, and getting onto a powerful bike straight away, would, for me, be a too bigger risk to take.

Get a smaller bike, then when you do get a more powerful bike you will respect it more and treat it better, as well as being less likely to come off.

just a thought mate

Dale

take into a/c all the factors as below and assign your importance to it. Then people would be able to advice better and inline with what you might listen to as well:
Criterias Idea :-

1. Main purpose for buying bike
2. Any preference faired/unfaired/twin headlight/ etc.
3. What cc you are looking for.
4. Your age.
5. How many miles you looking for in a week.
6. Preference of looks/mileage.

if u still have the two shortlisted, then pass the test.. test ride both, and if you are mature(???) enough, can get insurance, then any of the two would be fine for you!
Just acknowledge the fact that sports bike are lot more responsive to throttle and brake, so dont take any chances.
I passed my test last monday and bought a ninja, purely based on looks and that i dint felt uncomfy driving for 40 mins (my usual work trip). Rode to work thrice and already decided would need a track day or more next summer to get the aggression out.
am a 30 yr old with family, so don't really take un-necessary risks..i do filter , over take etc...

More often then not, new bikers (like myself) , see a sexy bike, get spurred into biking action, have pre-conceive notion about what we like and still seek advice Twisted Evil Worst part is that we still go and buy what we liked at first place.. (few sensible guys do change there opinion, but they are few and far between).
Result is that you get varied advice (from buying a 125cc) to 500 to 600 commuter and someone coming and recommending supersports.. Smile not much helpful!
So please provide more information on what you are after. Thumbs Up

Phew, that's a long message!

Cheers,
Dew

Good points, think about practicailtiy, what you want from the bike etc. It could be worth getting a smaller bike and riding that for a few months, but its your choice in the end. Thumbs Up

I agree with all of above m8. I am newbie biker (passed DAS Aug this year.) I also have the restriction on being only 5'4" so was limited to bikes I could buy/felt comfortable on Sad . I have a Fazer. Great bike. Although may not be the biggest bike in the world, the power is more than enough for me, and there seems plenty of it, especially compared to the suzuki gs125 I had previously Very Happy .

I use my bike for day to day commute to work and for weekend rides, and find it more than adequate for both.

But, to be honest m8, you should sit on a few bikes, test drive those that you narrow down. The bike may look sexy, but coming off because you cannot handle it, does not.

Good luck with your riding though m8, and keep us all posted as to what bike you plumped for. Thumbs Up
