Okay, that thread interested me a little... and I like the novelty idea.

I wouldn't buy one (Especially not at £130+), but i'd consider spending a day or two figuring out how to make one, and at least giving it a go.

I want it to involve a motor that I can control with a switch up by the handlebars... or a button i can mount somewhere near the frame the side of the bike so I could reach down and press it.

What would be the best way of doign it? A servo motor?

How would you do it?

Could you explain a little more? I'm quite new to bdging things together, and have next to no experience in stuff like this other than basic circuits in school.

or would you rather just ask someone and have them tell you step by step how to make it?

There's two types, master and slave. You want a slave.

It's got three wires. One goes to earth. The other two snap it to the "open" or "close" positions when you put 12V on them. So wire each of those two wires to the outputs of to a momentary action 2-way switch, you're done.

Could you not use some kind of servo to flip it or even a small hydraulic ram that is controlled by a switch?

exactamundo Shaggy da.

Except that one only has two wires, so I presume it needs a changeover switch to flip it (like a car electric window switch)

IVe been thinking of this my plan is as follows.

1 * RC Servo
1 * RC Battery/Batt box
1 * Switch/varible resister (the twisty one)
1* Length of cable.

Make a bracket. Use the servo to keep the plate upright on a hinge.
with the switch/VR wire into the battery and servo.

Job done! flick switch drops, then flick other way its up. or twidle the resiter to raise and lower.

I thought they door openers Magubbins cost a packet. More than £10.
Probably do to get one from a Scappy's.
