Be dressed smart, don't wear big white trainers, they'll think you look like a chav.

Looking up at the magistrates when you answer a question/make a statement will show sincerity, hanging your head and lowering your voice tone when admitting doing wrong will show penitence.

Keep your face dead-pan and inanimate and whatever you do don't smile or try to crack a joke. Refer to the counsel/magistrates as sir or ma'am (but not mum Very Happy ). Keep your answers short and concise and don't argue minor details - if you disagree say "I disagree with that" and say why.

What they said ^ hang your head look like you regret what you did and having big puppy dog eyes help as well.

If its a civil court its surprisingly informal.
I did one recently and everyone sat around a big table facing each other and the judge was the only one in a proper suit - no wig and such silly stuff.

The first time you reply to the bench, refer to them as 'Your Worships', and then revert to Sir and Ma'am after that. The clerk will direct many of the more technical questions, obviously look at her when she is talking - but make your replies to the bench.

Look polite, intelligent and respectful - they are used to having oodles of little scrotes in front of them, as the average caseload of a Magistrates court is populated by junkie shoplifters and the like. Stand out as being a little bit different, and you'll probably be treated as a more upstanding member of society.

Tweed jacket with leather patches.

Its about as far from Chav as you can get.

Show that you recognise that you did wrong and regret it. Say why you did it but then say you realise it's no excuse and should have thought it through clearer.

Unless you get a total board of knobbers in front of you all they really want to see is some remorse and to see you've learnt your lesson.

If you're not told what to call them, then how would you be expected to know what to address them as.

Just be polite, be yourself, be honest, look smart, if there are extenuating circumstances explain them clearly and concisely. If you're after pity, then I'm sure you've already gone over in your head what you're going to say a million times.

I've been told by several people they found it surprisingly casual.

P.S Just be glad it's not a written thing. (it's spelt court).

Tell them to suck your scabby dick Twisted Evil

Magistrates really are the Daily Express readers of the world. They have no balls, no feelings and no soul. They will actually judge you solely on your choice of attire and footwear. I kid you not.

And they'll probably have made their minds up before you even walk into the court.

I know several professionally and would only claim to know one personally.

Cheers,

Byrnie.

Good luck with that Steve....

I can say Born2bvile is pretty much spot on.
I found it more daunting when i was in the waiting room and there were all the scummers in there. Confused Thumbs Down

They made things pretty easy for me, i went there, walked in and they kind of introduced me to everyone...lol.
They asked me about the traffic offence and i just answered in full what i thought.
One question was, "What about the defective tyre?"

My answer "The tyre was not defective"

*shrugs*

It's simple as that, they don't try and catch you out like cops do.

Yeah I did that I spent a good part of the night before practising what I was going to say. On the day that whole speech decided to take a holiday and leave my brain so I had to read out from a piece of paper not that they were arsed.

Glad your wearing a suit when I went to court there were only 2 of us out a good 15 people wearing a suit.

Let us know how you get on. Thumbs Up
