From the sounds of this quote, Super unleaded is a bad thing. Is this because it is more expensive or that there are other things involved, Octane etc.

whats the best for a 2Stroke NSR 125r? It does say on the tank, unleaded recomended. What damage, if any, would be caused by using LRP (4*)

The idea of 4* was that there was lead in it to 'lubricate' the engine. LRP does the same but there is no lead (apparently). Unleaded is designed specificaly for unleaded engines. dont know how thats ment to work. If you put unleaded into a 4* / LRP engine then there is no 'lubrication' LRP into an unleaded engine, what could possibly go wrong?

well....optimax by Shell "is the best", if you want the best be prepared to pay for the best, not often the best comes "cheap as chips".

If we had Shell's Optimax here I would use it all the time but I (or our vehicles) got to make do with the "poorer" Super Unleaded, again By Shell. I only go for "normal" unleaded if I must do..that's when the Fly starts to feel lethargic but is also smoother, when changing gears with the 95 fuel.

basically it's up to you and your wallet, what you choose and why.

£5 will take me approx 50+ miles (Optimax). not really a problem with price of fuel at the moment. maybe if/when i get a bigger bike it could cause problems (lightening wallet)

err...not too sure, but after VAT then our "Manx VAT" we're paying 83.9-84.9 a litre of the Poorer Super Unleaded. Although I have asked many times for Optimax with a "Not Avaliable here" and a blank face.

It's not as if I can put it forward to Tynwald asking for Optimax or anything. Laughing

thing is, with a search engine, you still have to know what your looking for, its like a dick-shin-ree. no point in looking up the spelling if you dont know how to spell it in the first place Wink

AVGAS = https://www.avgas.org.uk/
yeah, i think not Smile

Yes it does when an engine is run hard for long. You 'should' know that. Laughing

Try it with your lawnmower next time, and don't be chicken to rev the bollocks off it.

I think AVGAS is aviation-spec fuel, a lot higher octane that normal road fuel and normally used in racing. It's because the highly tuned engines need it to avoid detonation.

BTW- Aviation Fuel avoids all British Taxes, that's where EasyJet make their 'main profits'. Pricks, but smart ones.

You are sorely mistaken!

Rev the bollocks off it and consider yourself to be impressing the pedestrians!
