Just joined the forum. Had a look at the Outings and Excursions.

You must join the Northern User Group to access this regional forum.

That's a pain and (to me) strange. I'm sure there's a good reason, I just can't figure it out. Why don't they want me to know where the rides and meets are? Once they met me, sure but I haven't offended anyone. Yet. Very Happy

Maybe it's because if you can't be bothered to click 'groups' and the request membership button, you're unlikely to get on your bike and turn up to a ride out? Smile

There's plenty of good reasons; for a start it means that you aren't broadcasting all sorts of details about yourself and where you're riding to the rest of the big wide anonymous internet world.

Since I am not in the least concerned about who knows when and where I ride I don't understand why anyone[1] else should be.

Ever ridden over the speed limit?

I haven't ridden on rideouts with the people on the northern forum, but they might do. Despite the fact police can be seen doing this not in an emergency, it is still against the law

Also; consider that you're usually making it known where you'll be leaving a bike of a specific make etc. Good practice suggests that with people out there stealing bikes to order for parts, it's best not to publicise it.

Now this doesn't massively stop people; but hopefully something to make it not so obvious.

Yes. Not sure why it matters. Here.

Well I do for some things. But a bike ride? I guess I'm in the wrong place.
