Picked up my Bandit 600N on monday, and am still waiting for the garage to get the restrictor in(got a phone call this morning asking for the frame number and registration again, because they hadn't put them in correctly when ordering so I'm gonna have to wait a few more days for it) Sad

Is absolutely stunning especially for a 1997, and i picked it up for £980. I was wondering thoughr, how much will the restrictor affect top speed and acceleration? I have taken the bike out a couple of times this week, and was really impressed, just want someone to tell me it ain't gonna die too much Neutral

Can't wait till I have it insured!

Top speed of an unrestricted bandit is about 130mph.

Restricted is a tad over 100mph.
Its acceleration it'll hit most though.

Good bikes, I have a 97 Bandit 6 too, and if you look at the rear, right panel, it says it's a naked too!

(I broke a panel and that's all the breakers had)

Oh come on, we've all done it.

We've all ridden a new bike home just after buying it.
I agree, I don't take an uninsured bike out of the garage and go for a hoon.

But at one point or another, I bet 90% of members here have ridden without some form of insurance.

No we have not, I always arrange insurance or a transit van to get a new bike home, there is no excuse for riding without insurance. I have been hit by an uninsured driver, didn't know at the time as he just said he didn't have his details on him. Luckily for him he paid cash for the damage, I still informed the police about him though and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Plus Bike not insured.......Bike stolen.....No bike.....Oh, no money to get new bike? Rolling Eyes

So, that's a quicker result than you'd have got by going through the insurance companies. Wink

Driving uninsured, go for it if you want, it's you that'll be fucked if caught, not anyone else.

And Fucked big time if you injure someone and if you (Dog forbid) kill someone you will have a nice stay in one of the queens hotels for wayward lads. Not recomended. Thumbs Down

to ride a bike home after buying it just get the seller to hold off putting a date /time on the v5/recipt and then your own insurance will still cover you while its theirs. (this helps if your buying off a mate)

Assuming you have TPO on other bikes. And assuming you have another bike insured at the time.

I learnt my lesson the hard way.

drove from newcastle all the way to watford to look at a car one sunday morning couple of years ago. decided to buy it and take it home. forgot, and I do mean 'forgot' all about ringing the insurers. had a bump on the way home. ended up with 7 points for a CD10 (care and attention) £700 fine and had to pay £2000 costs to the third party as his car was a right off (even though the accident was his fecking fault)

Never ever risk it - it IS NOT worth the risk.

See, you say that. I'm insured fully comp, I got fucked over when an uninsured driver hit me. Damage to him, smashed drivers window/scratchs on drivers side. Damage to me, written off bike, paying for a new bumper, bonnet and headlight of lady I hit. He gave false details, fucked off. Where's his punishment for being uninsured?

I know I keep bringing it up ;p But it seriously did fuck me over... and no one appears to be able to help me out with it. ah well. The bitterness will sub-side one day.

Doesn't sound like a bump if you got 7 points for a CD10.
I do definitely agree with you on principle though. I have a bike trailer now, so I shant be doing it again.

With the '7 days free insurance' thing, people don't have an excuse for riding a new bike home without it either.

You're aware that you can still make an insurance claim for all that?

Think the problem really is people leaving the scene of an accident rather than driving uninsured.

Not saying 'yeah drive around uninsured, its really big and clever' but if people want to then thats upto them, if you choose to drive/ride without insurance its a risk for you rather than anyone else.

I just want to check the you guys know riding with things, like an illegal can, some tinted visors (and alot of other mods) also invalidates your insurance. So effect having a noisy can is just as bad as having no insurance.

Ste -
I did claim, but only cus I had to (her car was a company car). I'd rather have kept my 3 yrs ncb (which would have helped a lot having just turned 21), and pay out my own cash to the lady, and cover the cost of my bike. But alas, life is life. When I finally find Mr. David Spence, I'll either break his legs, torch his house.. Or, take him to court for everything he owns. More likely the latter though...

Basicly, I got £1,000 from my crash.. Covering the cost of my bike. My renewal this year would have been £600 with 3yrs ncb, or £1,150 without. So yeah.

Anyway, sorry for diverting from the topic here.

No they don't. Illegal pipe cannot invaldate insurance but it can help the insurance company file a case against you to recover losses.

Visors make no difference at all to insurance but could make you negligent in the case of a claim.

Even something as serious as not being restricted on a restricted licence is rarely brought up by insurers. None of the accidents involving those on a restricted licence with a full power bike that i know of have ever ended in invalid insurance and a foiled claim.

Two accidents and neither time they asked to see the certificate of restiction.. Makes me wonder why I wasted the money and fun getting them restricted...
