Passed DAS! bike advice please

Passed my DAS on wednesday at the first time of asking. Just about calming down now but want to get a bike so i can start really learning to ride in the real world.

What do people think of the Yamaha xj 600 diversion?

Any thoughts welcome.

p.s. to all those still learning - the hard work and pain in the left hand from the hours of u-turn practice is all worth it come test day.

same here, it's a thumbs up from me for the Divvy as well. It all though depends on what amount of riding you are going to be doing and why? Commuting? Weekend Warrior-ing? Touring? Popping down to the shops?

A divvy is a nice step up from what you'll probably have done the DAS on. I'm guessing something like a CB500, GS500 or similar. Those have about 50bhp max and the Divvy is 60. It'll feel bigger and more substantial than the learner 500's. Smile

Easy to work on and maintain, cheap to run and bar the exhaust and occasional electrical issue they are pretty robust. Cheap as well. Look at the GPZ500 as well. But, if you have more cash to spend then look at maybe a CB600F, a Hornet or similar ilk. then again, if you want to go for a sportsbike in the not too distant future then a cheap divvy will get you the road confidence you need, ride it for a year, flog it on and upgrade.

I got one when i passed. Rode it about 3 times then got bored. I personally wouldnt get one . Go for a Bandit or Hornet instead Thumbs Up

Divvies are cheap and cheerful, it wont blow you away and be the bike you've always dreamed of, but as long as you realise that, generally they are a whole lot of bike for the cash.

Cheap first bike, can find them anywhere good choice if youre just pottering about. Have a look at the Z750...lovely bike...bit bias though! It will give you all the comforts for commuting and also a lot of fun if you go for a sunday ride. Laughing

By all means if you have the money and aren't too worried about dropping it the Zee's are goin cheap, £2500 can get you a decent 04/05 one.

Hey everyone, thanks for the advice.
The diversion 600 that i was going to look at has been sold but going to look at a kawasaki gpz 500 next week. I know lots of people say i will get bored of this bike v quickly but i am going to use it for going to work mainly and the odd cross country trip so i think it will suit the job fine.
Does anyone know how it handles on the motorway though as will be using it occasionally on them - no point saying it doesn't cruise at 90 cos i am not a speed freak but any more thoughts would be great.
