Right, last year we lived in a tower block. We had central heating put in the year before ect.
We have since moved to a lower flat for Josh, which is absolutly freezing in the winter. We have Key for the meter and gas.
We use about 3 quid a day in gas!!!
I got talking to some taxi driver, who happened to lvie a few doors from me. He told me, they had central heating put in 2 years ago. But some residents didnt want it.
So the previous couple obviosuly didnt want it (assholes)
Dad pops to council to have a word about putting it in.
The reply?
'Sir, this may cost you sevral hundreds of pounds to have central heating installed to your flat. Write a letter to 'such and such'
My question is, are they allowed to do this as the other residents have had it for free? Why should we have to pay for something when others have it for free.
Rant over, letter on its way. dreading the costs!

right, as i work fitting central heating for a company that are contracted by the council (as probably your council does), the property is put on a prgram if its refused the council will issue another address and that property will be put on hold untill another year (which could be 10 years in the future) unless your doctor says you "need" central heating in which case theres a fair chance you'll be put on as an extra in the current years program, on the ohter hand if you are going to have it put in yourself it will cost more than £100's i'd budget around the 2k mark. And the answer is Yes, they can, not fit your heating.

Possibly she did, but the lower flat for her son outweighed the central heating issue? Rolling Eyes

Louise, so you have gas central heating but it is on a meter rather than say a direct debit scheme? Most Gas/electric companies will change your meter for free, if not i think the charge is around £75.

Moving to a lower flat was pority - only the other day some fella fell out the window from oare old block.
We lived on the 10th floor. And with kids, not really a good idea.
We was told a bunch of bullshit from the previous owners.
Were really gutted we moved now, but were doing fine.
Its just winter thats a bad factor. I dont mind, but with a youngen I have to keep it warm.
Its gas boiler, so heats up water ect. Just so dam expensive to run sometimes.

Just came across this so excuse delay in reply.
My central heating is down at the moment (suspect it's the pump, maybe the boiler. Let's fix the leaking pump first Very Happy) so can understand the lack of heat.

Anyhow, in the interim invested in a Halogen heater. Apparently only cost pennies to run on the electric (Confused we'll wait and see). If you're stuck for heat I can recommend them.

Should be around £10 (or less) for a 3 bar (3x350W). The one we got from Wilkinsons swivels so the heat doesn't get concentrated on one spot and turns itself off if picked up or tipped over Thumbs Up We put it on one of those plug top timers so it starts warming the room up.

As for fitting the central heating see how much it'll cost as it sounds like you'll be getting it cheaper than Joe Public non council tennant. For example, I was quoted around £200 (inc. parts/labour) just for this pump. Workmate had his boiler replaced recently and that cost him around £500 plus labour.

Just some thoughts. Hope you get it sorted.
