Help me decide which car to buy.

My wife is looking at buying a new car under the Motability scheme, we currently have a Ford Focus 1.8LX (Old Shape)

We want to replace this with a 1.6 5 ddor of a similar size, tomomorow we are test driving a few.

It has to brand new (lifes a bummer Laughing

)

We have compiled a list and have compared Combined MPG, Top Speed, 0-62 value and emmission rating. One car stands above all, but we don't like it and I'm not going to tell you what it is yet. We have a favourite and likewise I'll tell you later.

What would you go for?

That's a pretty uninspiring list, so the only one that stands out for me is the Golf.

Another vote for the Golf, except I'd go for Diesel. And an estate.

My sister had one and loved it right up until the

1) Sunroof shattered above her newborn baby (LUCKILY there was a draw across blind there that caught the glass) with no reason detectable. No stone impact or suchlike

2) After having the roof repaired (under warranty) She sat her child in its seat, in the back, only to have the rear window shatter as well. This was when sat in stationary traffic too.

All those cars look the same except the Citroen C4.
I would have that. VW Golf's are reliable but dull.
Get something that everyone else wont have.

I voted mazda, but in the same sort of range I would look at the latest Civic or Leon myself.

Had a Megane as a hire car for a week or 2 and was comfy as heck, fantastic mpg, excellent brakes and a little grunt under the bonnet. The looks are still fresh with that huge ass which has a very accommodating boot space. Seats 5 easily and the fact that its a keyless entrance / start is still a gimmick that even you'll find cool.

Saying that, I'd get the new Honda Civic Wink

Going out for the first tesat drive in an hour or so.

The Alfa is a performance car and a little out of our budget / maintenence cost etc. (And Italian)

The new Civic has'nt been out long enough, don't know what niggles will occur, certainly a stunning looking car, especially those VFR styley exhaust pipes.

Well the best car overall on paper is the new Astra. But Vauxhall bild quality and customer service is well poor.

Toyota have the best customer service and car reliability, but the Corolla is just so boring.

But the one that we want (of the above) is the Golf (suprise suprise). Also impressed by the Megane, but the rear end!

Well first and foremost, if you’re wife is on the motability scheme, you need to to sort out what’s the best option for her, depending on what’s her disability?

Also look at what’s the advance payment is, what’s the running cost goner be, in your case MPG, as every thing else is paid for,

Then look what colour schemes these cars come in,

If you want my honest opinion, the Ford Focus zetec climate, is a top car (bit mainstream yeah), but should that put you off?

one last thing, the heated front screen you get with the Focus is the dogs especially this time of the year,

i voted golf because i think from the list its the best looking and (in theory) the best built, second i'd have the focus and then probly the pug. I feel sorry for you having to choose a brand new car Wink
