I maybe biased but....an NSR lol. It depends....why not get an RVF like Korn or a ZXR like Zim, bollocks to the restrictor kit, they give you a date to take your bike for a dyno so if you get pulled just put the restrictor back in. Just pray we don't get like those Germans who have mobile dyno meters so they can test you on the spot....

My Honda X8RX used to be derestricted, and some clever little company made a CDI unit which has 2 settings, restricted revs, and yep you guessed it, unrestricted revs. Just just had to cut a small section out of the plastics in front of your legs to fit it, so if you got pulled flick a switch.....yes officer, no officer, goodbye officer....flick switch byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...well not exactly...it only went 45-50mph derestricted lol

pretty much any bike that makes over 33hp should be restricted down to *just under* 33hp, while the TZR probably makes a little under 30. 400cc+ bikes should also have a fair bit more tourqe which will give you better acceleration and a smoother ride.
The main worry will probably be insurance costs.

btw. is your TZR a TZR125R?

i'll be in the same situation this summer, when i pass my test (if) but i will definately get it by the end of the summer

i havent got a really big budget at the moment, so im thinking of gettin a new dt125 yam 2002 model

and that should last me two to three years and last me through uni

i only have a few questions, with the dt125 carry a pillion happily, and what will the top speed be derestricted?

goose if you go to www.ukbike.com there is an owner's reviews section and the DT is listed. Theres loads of people posted opinions but they all quote different top speeds! it could still be useful for you to have a look though.

How come the SV hasn't had a mention during all of this?

Carnell-citys 'real prices'

SV650SK2, 70bhp, Insurance Group 12 169Kg - £5,149.00
ZXR400L9, 65bhp, Insurance Group 10 162Kg - £5,735.00

I'm not tryin to get in a pissing contest with Zim, just puttin my pennys worth in. I'm bound to be a bit biast towards my own bike too..

If you're really not bothered by the insurance (you could be paying £2000 £3000 easily enough for a big bike) then a 400/600 sports bike is probably youre best best. You could also consider a naked 600.

btw, just wondering about the TZR 'cos my flat mates got a TZR125R lying around, we could only find derestriction guides for the TZR125.

An old TZR125L aint got more than 28bhp max unless its been bored out or tuned. The TZR125R is a bit more powerful, and looks ok, but probably aint much different to an NSR in speed or handling. The TZR250 is a great bike, i wish i still had one, but they are bloody rare these days, and the chances are that 90% of them are knackered by now. I still think its the best road 250 of all time though! Dont get one if you want to restrict it to 33bhp as it dont do it any good, and restricted strokers are crap to ride, when compared to a restriced 4 stroke. If i were you id be looking for a GPX or ZZR250, they are a lovely little 4 stroke twin, and rev like hell.

Yep thats a cracking bike m8! Looks miles better in my opinion than either the Fazer or the Faired Hornet, but havin said that the naked hornet looks cute enough.

I'd reccommed you at least get a test ride on say a bandit 600 (cheap insurance)/sv or simialr bike and compare it to a cb500...
I don't think I've ridden one but I assume they're similar to the other 500 twins and I reckon It's at least worth a test ride to compare them with the 600s.

Hi

Think the SZR kicks out nearer 45hp. They are not that much quicker than the NSR (I think they use the frame from the old Italian market TZR125, which was nabbed from an older model TZR250).

All the best

Keith
