Cagiva Mito 125

I've been looking at geared 125s and have come accross this make and bike. What are Cagiva Mitos like?

I think they're imported judging by a Google search, but have looked on Bike Trader and they seem to be much cheaper than an NSR of the same year.

Just wanted opinions/experiences/advice please as I've never heard of them before. bloody sexy bikes though, reminds me of a Ducati...

Hi

Mito has been made for years and officially imported for years.

Styling wise they were designed by the same guy who designed the 916. And restyled about half way through their life to look more like the 916.

Performance wise they are better than the NSR. Spare parts can be a pig from official sources, but there are some good non official sources.

Yeah I prefer the looks of the Mito to the NSR, it looks more aggressive and more like a bigger bike. And better performance than the NSR too is making me tempted to start saving

Not just slagging the Mito here, but be prepared to break down, alot

As with any of the 2 stroke 125's, you will end up screaming it up to max revs allll the time(everyone does!) and it will break down.

If you preffer performance to reliability go for a 2stroke 33BHP

If you preffer reliability go for a 4 stroke, honda CG125 or simmilar!

I had one for a while and had no problems whatsoever.

Just make sure you look after it and it will be fine.

I have owned a RS125, NSR, and the Mito. The Mito wins hands down easily. Fast, comfortable, absolutely fantastic brakes and handles brilliantly. And to top it all off it looks like a mini 916

Yeah I did a little searching on the forum and it seems as long as you maintain it properly they'll be fine.

They are so much better looking than the NSR etc and better performance sounds like this is the bike for me

Good bike, a bit more reliable than the RS125 however don't ride these in the rain they get electrical problems then.

My brother had one and he had nothing but electrical faults from it and so did quite a few people he knew if he rode in the rain.

I AM SO CONFUSED!!!!!!
I am in between the mito, nsr, and rs 125. The guy at my local bike accessories shop said the nsr is great, reliable, but she slowest out of the 3. Aprilia is the middle one both for reliability and speed. Very fast, but breaks down if not treated VERY well. The mito he said was the fastest, sexiest, and most unreliable of all, and that treating it good was just not enough, you have to actually maintain it (cleaning frequently etc.).
Here you all say the opposite. The mito is great etc.
Some of my friends also insist that the mito seizes a lot.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO GET. My heart says mito, my head says nsr. Aprilia is kind of in between...HELP

Difficult to know. Plenty of people seem to have no problems with the Mito (less people seem to have problems with it than with the RS). NSR seems more able to put up with abuse, but when treated properly is no better (although does have a tendency to suffer electrical problems).

Only other thing is that you can get a Mito or RS new but you cannot get a new NSR.

This guy is asking for about 1800 for a 2004 mito in mint condition with only 7000km. Assuming he has or has not thrashed it, a) how could I know
b) what are my chances of the bike surviving
c) how much do piston rings cost?

Hi

Not really easy to tell if it has been thrashed. More a case of checking the owner rather than the bike.

The bike should be OK, if treated well (ie, don't thrash it from cold, use decent 2 squeak oil).

Piston rings are cheap, but you need to take the top end off the engine. Not a difficult job, although maybe a touch worrying if you have no experience.

I removed my cylinder from the bike I have now, and I had no experience at all. Went well
How often should I change the rings, and what are other standard maintainence procedures?

On the RS I change the rings at 6000km. Think people tend to change them a bit less often on the Mito.

every 14000 or so? not sure, but remember reading up on it,

i love the 2 strokes, but i don't like the sound, much prefer the 4stroke scream

always loved the Mito. and wanted one, when i was 17, but i had a terrible problem, with saving back then

like 'Kickstart' said, always evaluate the rider, if he talks bout the bike being red lined in every gear all day *which he wont* walk away

I really want the mito, im just afraid my dad wont agree due to the italian reputation for reliability, and his lack of respect for what I have to say

Hey this guy wants 2400 euro (about 1600 pounds) for a year 2000 mito with 23000km. Its got new tyres, chain, sprockets, and the cylinder and piston were changed about 2000km ago. Will i be likely to have to do an engine rebuild soon if i get this bike? Seeing as it has quite a few km on the clock...The cylinder will be fine, but will the crank?

The Mito is the fastest and by far the Nicest to look at. It does have the worst reliability out of the lot, but then most 2-smokes do ... I run the same engine as the RS and have had to re-build, but i have no idea of how it was treatd in Italy, probably thrashed ) ...

If i had the choice, I'd have the mito, but youll have higher running costs as maintenence is a little higher ...

In my opinion, the RS is the best bet ... Not the i dont like the NSR ... honest

Plus the RS and MITO are more like real bikes! Size wise ...

[It is the NSR that has the tiny thin rear wheel 'ent it?]
