had a box of big rockets tonight, the kind that go 2-300 feet up and explode with a loud bang and lots of coloured shooting stars.

first eight went up ok, lit the last one and walked back, turned round at about 12 feet away to watch it and started walking backwards to the house, another 20 feet away. as i did so, the damn thing just exploded where it was, i turned round so fast and ran that ive jarred my shoulder blade into my spine and bruised it.

as i turned the shooting stars flew out, all burning bright green and red, bouncing off the back of the house, ricocheting off the garage, whizzing past my ear and slamming against the wall of the house where my family was standing.

incredibly no-one was hurt, though the baby threw up everywhere and i copped a lump of something in the back of my head which i had to pick out of my hair. my garden and the neighbours were completely filled with smoke, so thick you couldnt see ten feet, smoke alarms going off in the houses, everyone deaf with ringing ears, total chaos.

just cant believe we all escaped unhurt..................... Exclamation

I hate having to be the Damp Squib but did you not read the article about how fireworks are dangerous.

And why was the baby holding a firework?

That's damned irresponsible.
What was it's Mother doing??

Perhaps you shouldn't let fireworks off near houses then.
We had some idiot shooting rockets off last year that were exploding over the house and rattling the windows and setting burglar alarms off. Mad

I cant believe sooo many people buy these things...complete waste of money. I personally prefer the fire crackers that let off coloured smoke (same as they had at GP Valencia this year) that and a good old bonfire!

Calm down 'Barry'.... Laughing

Y' said "the baby threw up everywhere".
You never said why.
I only assumed that it was holding the rocket and got a wee start that's all. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Nice one!

Our dog got out and just as the last rocket (the big finale one) was about to lift off he decided to attack it. I thought dogs were supposed to hide under the table. This idiot nearly chewed through the door trying to get at the fireworks.

Anyway, it came at us!! The kids were inside looking through the upstairs window (They got cold, bless 'em) so they were safe.

The patio door glass is now etched from the shower of sparks that was spat at it. I fell through the fence when the rocket exploded, and the rest of the adults fell over each other trying to get through the kitchen door.

It was the funniest firework night I think I've ever had! It could have been awful, but no one got hurt so it was a scream.

Haa...baby puke....glad no one was hurt. I bet you laughed about it afterwards.

We had some fireworks that said on the box "Stand 25 feet away" we weren't that far unfortunatly the garden wasn't 25 feet lol, most of the fireworks were fine at the distance we were at until i lit one called "Chaos" or something.

It started errupting loads of colour flames and things and then started whistling like a thousand kettles before exploding sending out shrapnel and flames, all my guests took cover, i got some ash stuff in my beer.

Pretty crazy Razz Thumbs Up

I worked bonfire night and it gave me a whole new loathing for it. Why is it that 'the scum' think that at this time of year it's perfectly acceptable to empty their houses and back gardens of any old furniture/shite that they can't be bothered to take to the skip, pile it in the middle of a patch of grass outside their house (which is public property) and set fire to it creating a 10 ft, out of control inferno! You wouldn't do it any other time of year!!! I havn't got a problem with a small fire on your own land but some people really do take the piss. Plus all the little chav bastards are out setting fire to anything that stays still long enough. I hardly got any sleep at all at work that night!

Shut the fuck up moaning, you get paid don't you, we all go to work to work, no point in complaining if we're particuarly busy one day. Although I guess nesxt year if you feel so strongly about it you could just go on strike, seems to solve all the firemans problems that. Rolling Eyes

I don't mind working at all, I like it. It's the idiots that seem to have no regard for other people at this time of year. They light huge piles of shit with no means of putting it out if it goes out of control and then wonder why the neighbours shed is suddenly on fire. They also throw aerosol cans on it as well as fire works. If someone gets hurt they don't give a shit. As I said, I have no problem with small controlled fires on private land but why do people think they can have a fire where ever they want this time of year. I think the sale of all fire works to the public should be banned and only used at organised events. Why arm the incredibly stupid and ignorant scum of today with explosives??

Shaun, he likes his job.

Chavvy council house dwellers burning their belongings on the green outside, and chavy kids burning other people belongings is something to moan about.

If it gets out of control you call the fire birgade, it's what you're there for, not everybody has a great knowledge of have fire reacts and how quickly it can get out of control, accidents happen. As for banning the sale of fireworks, why punish the innocent for what a minority do wrong, shall we ban air travel to the public as well incase someone is a terrorist? Better be banning public sale of cars and motorcycles as well and everyone can use public transport, after all it seems a minority can't control them very well so it's safer this way.

Right, so whilst you're waiting for us to arrive and deal with the situation your shed and eveything inside it goes up in flames. You don't need great knowledge of how fire reacts to realise that a big fire near wooden things like fences, sheds and trees isn't a good idea. It's common sense. It also doesn't take a genius to understand that having something at hand to put it out should you need to is a good idea. Whilst we're pissing about with dickheads and their fires, other more important jobs will get longer response times because a truck has to come from another patch.

Who's daft enough to go starting big fires close to sheds, garages, trees, houses & fences or to go throwing aerosol cans or fireworks on a bonfire? Whistle

Got smacked in the leg by an out of control rocket, it hurt more when I was smacked in the arm by a bug at 100.

Fucking around with fireworks is fun, just make sure you have something to hide behind.

Most people get paid to do thier jobs. That doesn't mean that they have a brilliant day everytime they go in! I'm sure you've gone home after a rubbish day and moaned about whatever made it that way!

Read what he says again, he complains because he hardly got any sleep, if he wanted sleep then he should've stayed on the dole. He got a job as a fireman, naturally on bonfire night it is blindingly obvious that there will be a heavily increased amount of fire related incidents whether it be down to stupid mistakes or accidents, so suddenly it's a good idea to ban fireworks because he was too stupid to figure out that on bonfire night when millions of people are having little displays and fires that he would have a busy night.

Fair enough if he had a shit night because someone died in a fire or he saw someones life work or posessions go up in flames and it made him feel bad but because he got no sleep, fuck off.

I wasn't referring to the idea that fireworks shouldn't be allowed to be purchased.

But I have to agree, I feel sorry for the Emergency Services on Bonfire night, it makes thier already difficult jobs at least twice as hard. I know accidents happen, and sometimes things get out of control even though people have the best intentions and have planned thier evening well. However there are a lot of people who are incredibly stupid, and have no respect for the jobs that the Emergency Services do, or thier neighbours or those around them. Despite constant warnings leading up to the night, on the tv, the radio ect. they still act like idiots, with no regard for thier own safety, or other peoples. It wastes the Emergency Services time, as the chances are if these people had of acted responsibly and how they were supposed to, they would not have needed them.

I know if you decide to join any of the Emergency Services then that's what you agree to take on, but that doesn't make the behaviour of these idiotic people acceptable.

He was complaining about the people that act like idiots, and as one of the people who deal with it, whether it was his choice to take on that role or not, I think he is perfectly entitled to do so.
