Im thinking waaaaaay ahead of myself here but im wanting some opinions and knowledge from those in the know.

Ive already decided i want an R6 for my next bike, part of the reason is my friend owns a rare Virgin R6 and is thinking of selling it to buy the New R6 maybe next year. I said id love to buy the Virgin one which would keep it amoungst friends, but the new one is tres bon! I cant get over how nice it looks, not so sure on the performance between the 2 bikes but i have been told the virgin ones a bit spesh.

What would you do? Anyone know any specs on the Virgin R6?

Yes young padawan.

The Virgin R6 is like any other standard R6 except it has Virgin Mobile R6 Cup paint and stickers on it.

Miraculously & downright spupendously, to my utter amazement and astonishment, by typing Virgin R6 into google this (link below) appeared at the top of the search results.

ive already been on that site, and havent found any info relating to the spec of the bike.

As for it being the same as any other R6, i assure you it isnt. Even getting parts from the main dealers using the VIN number proves to be a problem, for example, a rear wheel bearing, easy simple item, yet the standard part does not fit, and is too small for the ultra light weight wheels........ Obewan! Very Happy

Looks like that virgin R6 has been raced.

Possibly an ex-actual R6 cup bike rather than an R6 with a paintjob?
I spy tarty rearsets on it, and the main sign, a chain guard.

Check the sump bolt for lockwiring etc. Although I would have thought R6 cup bikes would use standard wheels.

Looks like an aftermarket shock too.

I'm sure a guru will appear shortly and pull my theory to bits and suggest something more likely.

the bike originated directly from yamaha, only 1 of 3 which came out of the factory with full Virgin livery and bits to go with it. Ill see if i can get all the info from my mate who has been in contact with one of the chiefs (could be an engineer or some sort) who has confirmed its origins. Ill get some upto date pics aswell.

The non virgin one, presume the virgin one costs more because its got a tarty paint job and few tarty parts like the wheels and sharks fin.

Gaz, would be quite suprising if the best someone could do with a R6 cup was put it on the road, if they bothered to put the pillion pegs on then you'd think they'd have noticed the fin. Dunno, if trying to put a race bike on the road and pass it off as a road bike, you wouldn't be going putting bodywork to match the race series it was in. Wink

From here > https://www.visorvision.co.uk/shop/information.php?info_id=4 ;

"This is where the Virgin R6 Mobile Cup came into the equation; a grid full of identical Yamaha R6's, same Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tyres, no tuning, no tyre warmers and only riders between 16-22 years old allowed - 1st prize in the series a full seasons ride with the BSB Virgin Yamaha squad on the YZF R1's - a bike with 200bhp + and no expense spared in it's preparation."

Yeah noticed the pillion pegs @ Ste.

Something very strange with that bike, I'd be interested to hear more about it.

I live pretty much next door to an International Multi Million pound bearing company, THey must do every bearing ever made.

Spelling/grammar errors aside :p

They're just bits of metal with balls in them that are relied on by anything that spins.

There are lots of things that spin.

You would have to put another grand to your five grand to buy a used 2006 R6 even at this time of year and then possibly another grand+ for insurance.

Ive no doubt they will be available there, likewise i work next to a bearing company and got my new front/rear bearings for a mere £15, all they did was size them up off the shelf! The point i was making was that my mate didnt expect to have a problem buying OE parts from a dealer, which lead him to ask questions as to why the bike has non standard parts on it.

I'd opt from a gearbox-okay early model for around £2500 and save the rest.

They're £7.5k if I remember correctly.

An expensive paintjob if you ask me! They do look /very/ tasty though.

Hello Dave,

I can confirm that the bike was brand new and unregistered.
It was originally supplied to Team Virgin Mobile in a delivery of 36 bikes
for use as an R6 Cup bike, but was never used at any stage on the race track
or altered to track specification

The paintwork was carried out by Racepaint UK who paint all of our race
bikes and apply the decals to the R6 Cup bikes. Our own mechanics built the
machine with the painted fairings and a few items we use in the R6 Cup, but
other than that the bike is standard.

Your bike was 1 of 3 that was given away by our sponsors Virgin Mobile in
various competitions, with the Sun competition being the only competition
the public could enter.

I hope that puts your mind at rest, I'm sure of the history as I was the
person who arranged delivery to London and sent the V55 to the winner.

regards

Guy Davies
Rob McElnea Racing Ltd

So who is this Guy Davies then?
